The new support gives me hope for the deck to be a bit more competitive and hold its own. I always felt the deck should of been made to be more powerful than it actually was - eternal soul was far too easy to disrupt, hopefully this fixes things to some degree. Now they just need to erata that damn Eye Of Timaeus to be searchable because the ruling is a pain in the ass!!

I know Dark Magicians are a fan favorite but they are not competitive relevant at all and Dark Magician the Dragon Knight does not fix that, they are tier 2 rogue at best. You really stop selling them off as a potentially competitive deck Paul since they are not, no matter how much you want them to be. Just play the deck as a casual deck since that's where the deck belongs, for the fans of the show who like to play with Dark Magician and just want to have fun.

For the last card of the Extra Deck, consider running Hierophant of Prophecy? You'll probably never go into it but it has a ton of synergy with Dark Margicians running the Spellbook engine: 1. It's a rank 7 which this deck can easily go in to 2. You can use those Spellbooks in the GY to remove back row 3. The ultimate rare version is pretty cheap!

What are your thoughts on "Dedication Through Light And Darkness" and "Dark Magician of Chaos" as maybe a one-of each? Sure DMoC got an errata, but even though it's less effective, it still allows you to recycle your spells, and it's a 2800 beater that banishes monsters it would destroy. Dedication lets you summon DMoC from hand deck or graveyard, is searchable by the search cards, and is effectively free when you used Eternal Soul to get back the DM you tributed for it (which could then set off Circle). Just a thought I had because I don't have the Spellbook engine...yet.

Awesome build. Its actually pretty popular. I suggest siding Lullaby of Obedience, just in case of a mirror match, Palladium Oracle Mahad as well for that same reason(and he has amazing synergy for the deck anyway). I honestly prefer desires, allure, and duality over the spellbooks, but everyone has a preference. Though, I gotta ask, why not 3 Eye of Timeus? Everyone is running two, but nobody seems to see the potential of 3 and 3 Dragon Knights. Using Eternal Soul, you can revive the Dragon Knight after using him as Fusion Fodder for another one, and now the opponent has to deal with 2, as when being revived from the grave, extra deck monsters can be placed in the normal monster zone. But, perhaps I just see things differently

I've been running Dark Magician for the past few months, and I absolutely love it. What's really fun with it is when I've thrown a Dragon Shield in the deck to specifically protect Dark Magician the Dragon Knight. D.M the Dragon Knight along with Eternal Soul and Dragon Shield makes for a nearly untouchable three-card combo

Have you tried the new field spell Defence Zone from code of duelist in this? It come in handy for those games were dragon knight just won’t show himself. I tried two of it and one secret village + 3 terraforming and Its doing wonders for my deck. With cosmic cyclone everywhere now its a cheap and easy way to protect eternal soul.

Palladium Oracle Mahad would be good in the DM deck. He makes the heart of the cards a realistic thing. Also, if you open with him on your starting hand, you can use AIM to discard him to special summon her, use Choco to discard him to draw one cards, and, if you use it, Sacred Swords of Seven Stars on him.

Can I state that I would really like a Dark Magician retrain. Something similar to Blue-eyes Alternative Dragon. Thoughts?

muse6815 dark Magician got a retrain, that would be Magician of Dark Illusion. And just like Blue-Eyes Alternative White Dragon, it's fairly easy to summon. His effect is, however, a little underwhelming when you have cards like Eternal Soul being able to revive DM from the GY.

I know he's technically the retrain, but if I was to compare him to a blue-eyes card, it would be Dragon spirit of white. Magician is fine as like a 2 of, but i'd love to have what is essentially a dark magician with an effect like "If you control a spellcaster, you can special summon this. its name is Dark Magician in hand, deck, or GY. When this is summoned you can add one Eye of Timias(I needed to make that thing searchable...it wont be but, dreams...) Obvious Once per turn claus" you know?

muse6815 honestly I've heard rumors of Eye of Timaeus possibly getting an errata. Who knows though. But if I could have a single card for DM. It would be a card that does exactly this: Activate this card only while you do not control "Dark Magician". Pay half your LP; special summon "Dark Magician" from your hand or deck, and if you do, add 1 "Magician's Rod" or "Magician's Robe" from your deck to your hand. You can banish this card from your GY, add 1 spell or trap that lists "Dark Magician" in its text from your deck to your hand. You can only activate 1 "Setting the Stage" per turn.

I would love dark magician to have more stuff that plays to him being a magician. You have Setting the Stage. Maybe a Dark Magician Infernity Barrier called "Curtain Call". If I was do something else to the arch type it would be have Apprentice Illusion count as "Dark Magician Girl" on field or gy. A field Spell might be nice. Don't know what you'd have it do. Some more lockdown style stuff would be nice. Like any monster your opponent special summons has its effect negated for one turn

I always use ebony illusion. I've never use ebony high, but I have him. I use red-eyes flare but I've never gone into him. When I draw the eye of timiase I always use it to get dark magician dragon knight, but since the eye isn't searchable I always go into ebony illusion.

But only Dark Magician is a Dark Magician Card. The cards that search cards that list specifically list needing Dark Magician always say "'Dark Magician' Card." However, The Eye of Timaeus states, "Dark Magician Monster." It states this because Dark Magician Girl the Dragon Knight is a Timaeus Fusion. Learn the rules. Don't make assumptions based on a poorly coded simulator or your locals ignorance. And if searching, reading, and/or comprehension is hard for you, then follow this ruling: Eye of Timaeus is not searchable BKSS.

Paul, my man. Cosmic was a fantastic choice, been running it meself for a while. Spellbook Engine really is the way to go with Dark Magician, though I haven't tried 2 of each in my build. I've actually found Amulet to be a fairly good late-game beater for the win. Paladin is a card that ya just wanna keep around. Never know when you'll see Blue-Eyes creep up on ya. I think I'd suggest Grampulse over Dante/Ghostrick though. Bit better of an option I feel. Link Spider is an absolutely great option for that last slot btw. Sometimes you will have Dark Magician on board, and Soul-Circle, but none in GY, so you make Link Spider using Dark Magician, then bring it right back! : D

Check this out. If you have 2 eye of timaeus in hand you can use it to summon dark magician the dragon knight and then use it on that to summon dark paladin and then use eternal soul or what not to bring it back in the main monster zone.

Phillip Bouille solemns are absolutely necessary, as for dualities you have to remember you aren’t allowed to special summon after, and this deck is all about special summoning

As I am pretty new to the " new " Yu- gu oh, could anyone tell what the advantage/ purpose is of putting card in the extra deck that you won't use most of the time, because your extra deck doesn't have to contain 15 cards or does it? An other question is how many of these new legendary dragon deck boxes I should buy, I have read 2/3 but don't want to waste to much on it. Any advice is really appreciated :)

Filip Goessens the ED doesn't HAVE to have 15 cards in it, no. But the purpose for having it filled with cards that you may or may not ever go into is more about contingency. Better to have it and not need it than to need it and not have it. Know what I'm sayin? It's like I don't ALWAYS need Number 11: Big Eye. But in the off chance my opponent has a huge beater that can't be destroyed by conventional means, and I have a way to get 2 level 7s to the field quick? Hell yeah im glad I have Number 11 then. It's pretty much a place to have all your "just in case" cards. As for how many of the boxes of LEDD you should get? I would start with getting a single box. See what you like and what you don't like, see what decks you think you'll make, and if you think it will be cheaper to build the decks out of another box or 2 than buying singles, do that. Otherwise just buy single cards and stuff, that would usually be the cheaper method.

I was aiming for the dark magician deck as my first meta deck ever, but I will have to buy some cards for my extra deck since I have not that many cards yet. Basically, Eye of Timaeus allows you to Fusion Summon any Fusion Monster that lists Dark Magician as one of its materials, as long as you have DM on the Field. Fun fact: because of the way the card is worded, you can actually use it to also Fusion Summon Dark Paladin and Dark Flare Knight.

I just wanted to add something not sure if I will get a reply but how is "eye of timaeus" not searchable? (This card is also always treated as "Legendary Dragon Timaeus".) Target 1 "Dark Magician" monster you control; Fusion Summon 1 Fusion Monster from your Extra Deck that lists that monster on the field as Fusion Material, using it as the Fusion Material. You can only activate 1 "The Eye of Timaeus" per turn. I'm sorry I just wanted clarification...

The reason why Eye of Timaeus isn't searchable is due to the wording on the cards. Basically, Rod and Circle state that the cards must 'specifically mention' Dark Magician. Eye of Timaeus is worded 'Dark Magician Monster'. This is to make it able to also summon DMG's Fusion, but because it mentions 'Dark Magician Monster' and not specifically Dark Magician, it cannot be searched by Rod/Circle, which is a shame because it would be fairly easy to errata it to say 'Dark Magician or Dark Magician Girl', which would make it searchable. It's petty semantics, but rules lawyering and RAW won out here.

It's filler for the deck so it's not detrimental if you banish a couple Spellbooks or something, actually it will help in a way and get cards that are either not going to help you advance or require you to dance around to get to what you want.

Yes, you don't need him to run the deck fine, but why not have it as something that can secure games and your boards easier? It keeps eternal soul safe and prevents your board from getting wiped if they can pop it. I'm not saying activate it twice in a turn... you can use another EoT in another turn?? Any deck that has a good boss monster will run more than one copy in the case that it gets removed and you need to make another.

A second copy ain't bad to use as a just in case... like just in case you lost one and are vulnerable for a second, you can get another one out if you need it. Like let's say you have 1 out and use EoT to get anther one well now if your opponent can deal with one, you have a backup.

AuraStorm I used to use it too, but because it's effect text says "when" instead of "if", it's pretty much useless and will never proc its effect. If you do synchros it's decent but DM doesn't really have too many options for that that make running this card needed.

With a deck that is so easy to bring out decode talker, why don't you run any links? I mean, this deck can be pretty spammy with xyz, so I can't see only having 1 on field ever being a good thing, other than the new fusion.

You keep saying don't run amulet dragon but why not? The Extra Deck has more than enough space for it and it's really good for situational purposes facing decks like True Draco who purposely send their spells to the grave

Xaxel11 You can also use the Eye of Timaeus on DM the Dragon Knight and bring him back with Eternal Soul. That's if you happen to draw a second Eye though lol

TheDeathstr1ke I run 3 Eye of Timaeus and it hardly ever bricks me out. With a card that is going to be a key component in your plays you want to see it ASAP. And the fact that it's unsearchable by the DM support means I feel like I need it at 3 in my deck to even consider running any DM fusions, otherwise I don't see a point.

Xaxel11 amulet Dragon doesn't really seem all that great to me, it doesn't have any protection, the float is okay but is kind of redundant for DM. Attack boost is mediocre, and the monster would last long enough to get a lot of use from it. Too be honest I'm surprised I didn't see Hierophant of Prophecy in the ED. Detach One material to destroy s/t to the No of spellbook cards in your GY? Yes please. That's like a double twin twister in a single card.

I like Amulet Dragon, helps clear spells out of your opponents GY and it's a big monster to have. I do agree with the Hierophant though.

TheDeathstr1ke yea man it's all a matter of personal preference. DM engine runs fine so long as you have the big cards (DM, Apprentice, Rod, Circle, Soul, Nav)

You can still get plusses from other places and not risk banishing important cards. I have banished all 3 eternal soul before. You can also run pot of duality to help get what you need and use Soul and Navigation to special summon on your opponents turn.

+Oligoden Another reason I prefer Allure is that a lot of the targets for it are recyclable from the grave so even if you banish a copy or two you can still use what you have left over and over.

Because it doesn't specifically list "Dark Magician", but rather "1 'Dark Magician' Monster you control", which is to say "1 Monster you control with 'Dark Magician' in its name". This means you could use Dark Magician Girl on it as well.

Because people have different ways of thinking, handling stress, or passing time. It's surprisingly common practice. Just because you don't do it does not mean everyone else shouldn't.
