Yugioh OTK's of the Past - (Chick the Yellow OTK)

An awesome idea GG. I'd always had wondered what decks were the top decks in the past, due to the fact that I only came into the game around the middle/end of the 5D's anime. So seeing combos like this really shows me the history of the game, and also demonstrates why certain cards are banned. Thanks GG!

I think chick the yellow OTK could be easily prevented nowadays with all these cards u mention on your video but Makura has a very dangerous effect that can be combined with multiple cards for an op combo, so Makura is well played on the banlist to this very day. Sounds like a combo stuck in between ban lists or traditional format of the time. Graceful/harpies/raigeki were banned when makyura first came out, and of course makyura was banned in the march 2005 list.

You state in this video that their were no hand traps around during the time this deck was played, but Kuriboh (the original hand trap) was around.

True, but no one was maining/siding Kuriboh for situations like this. The original hand trap, but a waste of space for almost every deck outside of fiend decks running Dark Necrofear.

ArchKingKoda kuriboh only blocks damage once so it wouldn't matter if you had it in hand anyway

lucky sevens Blocking damage once is all it would take to prevent Chick the Yellow's effect from activating, essentially killing the combo.

No hand traps? What about Kuriboh? For those of you too young to remember what it dose, you can discard it to make battle damage you take from one attack 0, thus no battle damage, thus no chicky effect.

I was just trying to show that the idea of hand traps has been around since the begining of the game. Just because no one used kiribioh dosen't mean it didn't exist. I mean it was yugi's deck keeper or whatever. Also Vouax​ if you get attacked directly can you activate Woboku? I don't think so! But yes, it has a way better effect! So dose Threatening Roar.

this otk could also be done with only two cards those being painful choice and call you use painfull choice reveal 2 chick the yellows two makyuras and another card and no matter what you get one makyura in the grave (activating his effect) and one chick the yellow then you proceed with actiavting call and ootking your oponenet

Another great OTK: Plaguespreader Zombie + Cannon Soldier + Imperial Iron Wall + Card of Safe Return. Was this OTK ever had the chance to be done or they banned Card of Safe Return before they released Plaguespreader?

the problem with makyura was no matter how he was sent to tge grave you got his effect. Now days with fader, scarecrow, tragodea, gorz, tatsuke knight, gagaga gardna, necro gardna, skill drain, royal decree, herald of orange light, perfect herald etc this otk isnt a threat but makyura is he makes exodia decks run 5 pieces and but loads of draw power.

NICE.... I wish I was playing competitively back in the hey day of this game. Na it would not do much damage in the game today bc you would have to unbann all those cards for it to work plus like you said hand traps weren't around back then.

I'm kinda confused because this seems to go against Makyura's written text. It says you can summon 1 trap card from your hand this turn and can only use the effect once per turn. How are you able to use it over and over?

How exactly do you Veiler during the Battle phase? It may be spell speed 2, but it cant be used outside of the Main Phase.

The otk still works in todays meta, albeit modified. First you need to summon Chick, but you dont need charity or mayukura. Then you equip it with 3 Mage Power and place 2 spell/traps on the field. If one of those cards is infected mail TADA OTK.

I think it could still be a thing. There are plenty of ways of ditching Makyura like Armageddon Knight, Foolish, etc. Also Call of the Haunted is at 3, so you could just waste a copy to bring it back next turn if your OTK failed this one. It seems fairly consistent regardless of the passing of time.

1 Makiyura makes this deck extremely consistant. I made one with 3 Upstarts, Foolish Burial, 3 Call of the Haunted, 3 Limit Reverse, and basically use cards to send darks to the graveyard (Summoner Monk into Armeggedon Knight then Lavalval Chain to send the other to the graveyard, reborn and you almost cant lose if youre using like 3 Grepher, 3 Chick, 3 Armeggedon, 2 Monk, 1 Makiyura, and all the Reckless, Yata, Jar, Hand Destruction, etc. To think Chick the Yellow can be this easily unstopable and since they are from the hand, I'm not sure If this means non continous traps are stilp negated by Trap Stun like I think they would, but damn chaining say Judgment from the hand was totally fair.

I dont think you're understanding, Chick's effect doesn't activate on summon, its when he inflicts battle damage, and you COTH him in the battle phase (As GG Said) so you cant Veiler, at all. Maybe i'm not understanding what you mean, but why would you summon him during the MP when he can be Veilered when you can just summon him in the BP and dodge Veiler completely?

I don't feel like it would work, just like a lot of these old combos wouldn't, just because there is so many cards that could stop it now-a-days. If you could pull it off, then it would work, but I see it that it's more like Exodia decks that it doesn't work often, even though its around.

I don't think this Otk has any place with the meta. Like he said there are too many Hand traps that could stop this from happening. The only way this deck would work effectively is if you let your opponent go first, didn't set/summon anything and you drew what you needed to pull off the combo. Beyond the first turn Chick the yellow is going to have a tough time getting that damage in to continue the loop.

So does Skill Prisoner, and with Makyura the Destructor you can activate it from hand too. I think this still works, obviously not that good like before, but still dangerous. Just becuase it was very old school it doesn't mean that it doesn't work anymore.

You must be new to yu-gi-oh, Structure decks come with a red rulebook, open it to page 24, and it states for trap cards: "Before you can activate a Trap Card, you must Set it on the field first." this is a sentence pulled straight from the rule book, in the trap card section.
