Not to mention he lost two of his best dragons. Serpent Night Dragon to Espa Roba and Red Eyes Black Dragon to Joey. And in the Waking The Dragons arc he just wanted his fame and Red Eyes back.

Yeah, Rex is, unironically, more akin to a Shakespearean tragic hero. He was genuinely honourable and even went out of his way to look out for his rivals. (Warning Joey that Espa Roba's dueling was fishy) It sucks that the later seasons had his personality devolve into Weevil 2, but if anyone was deserving of having a mental breakdown and snapping, its definitely Rex. Man was cheated out of thousands of dollars, dozens of life altering opportunities, and beaten in the streets.

Peso definitely read the manga to reference the Wicked Gods like that lol Also about the gun moment, in the manga Pegasus literally transformed Keith's hand into a gun and made him shoot himself. He just dies then and there only to later be revived as a puppet for the Wicked Gods.
