@@shis1988 and then season 4 put everything back into perspective with everyone having to buckle down on their life goals, the anxiety from the uncertainty about the future, Crowler not wanting anyone to graduate and therefore leave, Jaden recovering what made him a great duelist, and so much more. Season 4 was actually really good and completed GX.

How I miss this Bastion. He was the "opposite of Jaden" in so many ways. He used logic, probability, statistics and even other sciences to build his decks and devise strategies that allowed him to outsmart tough opponents and win in the end. Jaden, on the other hand, followed his heart and completely trusted his deck and specially winged kuriboh to back him up and help him overcome the most unlikely no win situations. I believe bastion was given a less important role in the series when Chazz stopped being an elitist snob and relatively became a "nicer snob" and one of jadens most important friends. Even then a character like Bastion deserved better.

Bastion is literally what a regular TCG player is, using probability, strategy and making decks around the meta to have the highest chance to win. he doesn't need main character plot armor

Bastion is closer to an actual meta TCG player. He has several decks instead of relying on one specific deck to win, each of them most likely contain cards that can help them overcome opposing threats the opponent might have ready. He considers what he has available wisely before summoning and attacking head on. Most importantly, he's not afraid of taking risks that involve losing Life Points in order to give him a better field advantage. He just falls short of being able to defeat opponents who tend to use random strategies or don't play under a single guideline. Chazz usually is an all-out offensive duelist, so someone like Bastion and Jaden who can be both offensive and defensive duelists at the same time are great opponents.

nah, Jaden is also relatable not only for Hero players but in general though - not even imo -.... and Bastion is annoying to me exactly for hat reason, reminds me of yugitubing which imo kinda sucks a lot of the heart YGO once had with so much meta snoobism and annoying card math thinking - like OMG I GET IT, your plus something deck rules with your engine and crap, just LET ME play competitvely with my Tier 2 stuff using my own twist, OK -, YGO even irl is not really all about math science and stuff, that's just a kind of player in the playerbase with a particular mindset, the - Jadens -, the - Joeys - the - Yugis - and specially - CHAZZ - if you know what i mean are also competitve, all you need to know in this game is knowing your techs and polishing your consistency with the cards you know tought, not to mention side decking and knowing meta weaknesses... and sorry for my lil rant there lol.

Bastion is like Jaden and Syrus' cool older brother. He's honest, respectful, humble, intelligent, generous, resourceful and is one of the few genuinely kind characters who never put anybody down or made fun of them because of their dueling abilities. He asks Jaden and Syrus to paint his room and rewards them well for it, he loses his deck but doesn't complain and accepts his loss, made short work of Chazz with a completley different deck and refused promotion to Obelisk Blue when he won until he could prove himself by beating the best freshman at duel academy which he acknowledged to be Jaden. It's a shame that his character isn't given much past Season 1, it would have been cool to see him evolve into a truly great character.

I love how, especially in this first season, characters like Zane and Bastion are made out to be these incredible, OP duelists, who had everything planned from the second they drew their first card, because they actually employ basic IRL deck building strategies like using effects to search for key cards, working towards a specific deck boss, and having critical cards for hand recovery, instead of being reliant on random chance like the majority of the cast. I suppose in a weird way, it's why they come across as so smart, because they might be only characters in the show who are employing a full game plan for a duel.

i always found it interesting the blues were the top dualist in the school, yet red and yellow beat them multiple times, jaden beat how many and even went toe to woe with zane more then once, tho he never beat zane he did give him a good run for his money each time.

In the first or second episode, Chumley explains to Jaden how the school is divided into colors, but he says some people get into blue because of connections, much like real life. I believe that Zane earned his blue, while Chazz didn't, since his family is influential and wealthy. But agreed! Jaden is simply just a different breed, hahaha.

I like Bastion. He strikes me as a good one to go to if you want to just start out dueling. Granted you're going to have to sit through some seriously long lectures on deck building, side boards and when to do what is best. I don't know if my decks would be a fit for his scientific styles, most are kinda either mismatched together out of stuff I think will work together or power heavy focused decks lots of dragons.
