Yuma was the first protagonist we had that didn’t really know what he was doing, and thus we see him go through the learning curve that we all went through when we first played the card game. The in dialogue provided by Tori and other characters reflect this as well, educating a new generation of duelists on some basic mechanics of the game. Not only that, but the nature of Yuma and Astral’s relationship (I use this as a non shipping term here) is somewhat reminiscent of Yugi and Atem’s, recapturing the interest of older fans as well. In that respect, While Zexal May not be the best series, it’s definitely the most relatable series out of them all, and unites two generations.

I like to think he was designed with a cyclic theme in mind. This was the fourth series, and three different protagonists came before it. Yuma and Astral have a very similar feel to Yugi and Yami, especially later on. I would provide evidence for Yuya and Yusaku being like Jaden and Yusei, but I haven’t watched arc v or vrains enough to confirm this. It’s like the cycle is ongoing, and Yuma, Yuya and Yusaku are twists on their original predecessors.

@@manmanplayz6824 astral was annoying in season one and my comment got some likes so obviously other people agree he was a little annoying in season one. and how exactly was yuma being a brat or acting like an idiot. trust me astral was a lot better in seasons two and three. by the way do you know why they changed the theme in season three the song "half way to forever" was good but take a chance in seasons one and two was better. by the way yuma's friends pissed me off too in season one them telling him all the duels he won he only won because of astral's help that is bs and bullshit how the hell do you figure that when even without astral's help he still would have won and the duels would have went exactly the same way. and how much is he helping him anyway even with astral help he still barely winning his duels because most of the time when yuma beats his opponents he only has 50 or 100 life points left so in my opinion he's ain't really helping that much. at least on the original yugioh yugi muto when he would beat his opponents he would have like 400 500 or 600 life points left.

Vegeta Not exactly. Yes they are both great duelist ghost with Amnesia, but their personalities and motives differ. Astral sticks with yuma who is difficult and argumentative only because he has to in order to collect the numbers and fulfill his mission. The pharaoh simply want to regain his memory and him and yugi have a symbiotic relationship due to yugis well natured personality and lack of confidence. In another words, Astral and Yuma are counterdependant but stick together for the purpose of each other’s individual interest. Atem and yugi were codependent as yugi taught the pharoh compassion while he taught yugi confidence and skill.
