This week Larry gets his hands on an interesting AK variant, The Yugo M70. This rifle has some pretty unique features for an AK variant, and finding one today in this near-perfect condition is extremely difficult. I love the sound of an AK running full auto! Just something about the rate of fire and sound it makes. This one running like a sowing machine! I've always liked the grenade launcher sights on these! Thanks for everything you do LAV! ✌️

@@KeterMalkuth Nope, that's the real sound. We've listened to the audience and changed how we record audio with new equipment and techniques. It took a lot of work to figure out and put together. The ultra-slow motion stuff (when you can see the projectile move) will still have to be dubbed, but all the real-time and a majority of the slow-motion footage will now feature the actual field recordings of the gun, just like this one. Because of our release schedule, there's a handful of "dubbed" videos waiting for release, but we'll only be producing videos with the real field recorded sound from here out.

For a short while this was my issued rifle and later I switched to the under-folded M70AB2 during my stint with the Serbian border guard on the Serbo-Bulgarian border during mid '00s.The under-folded version was more popular among us serviceman than the fixed stock one! After seeing lots of question on the internet regarding Yugo and later Serbian guns not having chrome lined barrels, the answer to that is very simple. Yugoslavia doesn't have natural deposits of Chrome so in the time of a war it wouldn't be smart to depend on some resource that you need to import. Yugoslavian army recognized the drawback of not heaving chrome lined barrels so they drilled in us from the very first days of basic training that we should clean our rifles at least a couple times in a week, even if the rifle wasn't fired! The reason why the majority of M70 are under-folded ones is in the doctrine of the former Yugo army, cause the majority of infantry was a mechanized one and under-folded rifle is much more practical to have while you are driven in BTR (APC).

@Charles Lindberg Yes. Almost all of guys in my regiment had the M70AB2.It was much easier to carry it then the M70AB1 especially in the mountainous terrain at the Serbo-Bulgarian border where I was stationed.

You are correct however the reason wasn't the lack of chrome deposits but lack of reliable technology back in time when Yu started with AK productions, later wasn't matter any more because as you mentioned a proper weapon cleaning was a big thing in yugo army.

The story like i heard it,was : Underfolder was the standard because of it's planned use in Partizan warfare in the case of a Warsawpact or NATO invasion...The wood stock was handed out to Special Forces and/or Recon units so it could be used as an oar in small boat/raft type vehicles during amfibious operations in the river deltas (Sava,Morava,Moraça and the Danube). Could be bullshit...but the dude who told me that,was a retired (subaltern)officer from the Yugoslav Naval Infantry so i have/had no reason to doubt him.

Back in the day we[as in half my family that was in the Yugo army] used Zastava's AK's,of course each different version was dependent on what the unit was issued for. Wooden stocks were mostly issued to infantry in woodland or open areas,obviously because they didn't need it compact. Underfolder was mostly given to paratroopers,urban infantries or certain groups. But mostly everyone used the folding stock because of our..well nature.We were..Russians,on crack,least to say. One thing why Zastava's AK's at that time were the best because they were made from extremely good materials in Bosnia.

The button on the left side is there to keep rifle from disassembling itself while firing grenades. Non chrome line barrels were used because it was cheaper to build it that way and also gives better accuracy (TFB TV used M70 for accuracy compassion against AR-15 and it was on par with it). Underfoldind stocks make rifles more compact for transport and CQB. Those are things that I was able to find about M70 (from Yugoslavian sources).

Reason for a lot of underfolders was that underfolder was replacement for SMGs, while fixed stocks were replacement for M59/66 (SKS). At the time of before replacement, rifle section had 9 men,. 1 x LMG, 4 x M59/66 and 4 x M56 SMG, so a lot of underfolders found a way into infantry. Also all mechanized and parachute units had only underfolders.

IMO i think that they should get together a bunch of professional Arms Sellers and Shooters, and determine weapon tiers. You should have a certain level of training to own a full auto rifle, handguns, shotguns, and everything inbetween and far beyond. That way if all you want is a weapon for self defense, the only training you need in a few day long day training to teach basic arms safety and weapons handling, but when you want a sporting rifle like an AR15 it might be training for like 2 or 3 weeks to learn about the rifle, and for the arms trainer to determine if you are a "good" or "stable" human being to prevent crazies from getting guns, and to allow Americans to own any weapons they want.

And you have to do that anyways to acquire full auto fire arms that were made past the 86 ban. And it doesnt violate the 2nd amendment because the people can still bear arms, all that changes is the fact that to own certain weapons, you need to be checked and trained to use them. If a person has zero gun knowledge they shouldnt be let around to use them. thats how cars work, thats how heavy machinery works, if I cant use a forklift without training why should I be able to go into a store, buy a handgun, and all that i need is to not have commited a crime.

My father served in the Yugoslavian Army back in the '80s, and these bad boys were their service rifles (I think, although I could be wrong). They had to regularly clean and maintain their rifles. He also told me a story where his comrade, who was from Montenegro, disassembled his rifle, but left a bullet in its barrel by accident. The Montenegro guy was casually joking around when he accidentally fired the half disassembled rifle and missed a guy by 1 metres. Noone got hurt, but the Montenegro guy got into some real trouble because of it. AK rifles with live ammo ain't a joke, be it assembled or not.

Alot of my fellow Americans seek to arm up with an AR-15.....I always tell em, you should consider the AK-47 (or even better the AK-74 if you can get your hands on one). I'm a former USMC grunt, and have fired both plenty. The AR will give you better precision shots at a longer distance, but I love that AK. You can throw that sucker in the mud, pick it up and fire no problem. For close in combat, give me an AK. Plus 7.62...way more stopping power.
@GeorgiaBoy1961
@GeorgiaBoy1961 4 жыл бұрын
@ Theseus: The late Colonel David L. Hackworth, one of the nation's finest soldiers, and an acknowledged expert in counter-guerilla operations during his time in Vietnam, loved the AK-47 and hated the M-16. Your comment about throwing one in the mud, and then fishing it out and having it work, mirrored his demo he used to do for his troopers. He'd grab an AK laying on the ground after a battle or whatever, one left behind, and he'd test-fire it. Then, he'd bury in the dirt or mud. Later on, he'd dig it up, clear the barrel and action to make sure they weren't obstructed, and then he'd insert a fresh magazine, cock it and fire it. Hack talks about doing this in one of his books, perhaps his memoir, "About Face." Of course, in those days, the M-16 hadn't yet been sorted out completely - which probably colored his perceptions of the weapon.
@williestyle35
@williestyle35 4 жыл бұрын
The AR 15 / M 16 having any more trouble with mud is a pernicious myth. The AR 15 does need more cleaning and maintenance, but we know it works ( especially with proper chrome lining ). m.kzbin.info/www/bejne/gqq7n5d5rdNsgZY The AK's 7.62 × 39 mm bullet does have more stopping power at combat distances ( 1 - 300 meters ) too.

My family member was in Yugo wars and told me that enemy had some nato/west german rifles that hit like bee stings, you would see people getting hit with it but they wouldnt go down just run towards medic,stretcher but when they shot someone with 7.62 they would stumble or fall down on the spot, sometimes get up again or crawl but not very far and that would be it.
