I wonder how many people are still misunderstanding the Youn/Pitt interaction His company was the producer of Minari, but Pitt was never on set (and they didn't even pay for her flight back home IIRC), she's quite literally wondering where the hell he was during production. She is not crushing on him or fangirling lol

I completely understand your point… that’s one thing about the Asian culture broadly, they’ll get on your ass for “not honoring” certain aspects of life! You’re spot on.

Indeed. And then the follow-up question that she got at the press conference where they asked her what Pitt smelled like. Props to Youn for being so quick and witty in the moment, but come on, Youn is a legend in her home country and they wouldn't be asking Meryl Streep what the presenter of her Oscar smelled like.

I know that too, it's just eventhough Brad was an EP in Minari, he didn't have to go to the set because he's really busy with other projects. I guess she really want to meet Brad and she did in the Oscars. She got her wish, good for her
@김가다시안

Yes, it's more like throwing shade on Brad. Later, she told *"You need to invest more money to your next movies"* to Brad Pitt. She suffered a lot during filming Minari cuz it's a low budget movie. The air conditioner didn't work in the middle of the July, and they had to stay together in a small Air B&B. During an interview with Bong Joon-ho, she said *"Independent films cost more than this film in general."* Fangirling Hollywood actor? That's Americentric point of view. She's a legendary veteran actress in South Korea, she doesn't have to suck Hollywood actor's ass.

She has made Oscar history: is the first Korean and the second Asian to take home an Oscar for Best Supporting Actress. Jung was up against eight-time acting nominee Glenn Close (perfect in a role that could have potentially been wrecked by a less skilled actress). She gave a superb performance as "Soon-ja". Jung deserved her Oscar!!

@@alexwest2945 I dunno, in some people’s minds, including my own, it feels weird to sort of “close out” the career of an immensely talented, respected, landmark performer with an Oscar win in the “lesser” categories for a film widely regarded as trash. It just feels like a disrespect, in a way. Granted, I don’t think this is always a bad thing, for instance of her 8 Nominations, the only years in which I’d have voted for Geraldine Page if I were an Academy member were in 1972 and 1984, for supporting performances that aren’t as well remembered as her others.

you're right, but do you remember Halle Berry winning a leading role Oscar back as a light-skinned black woman in 2001 was a HUGE deal back then? because I do, and that was only 21 years ago. it took them a long time to catch up. and apart from the fact that Young Yuh-Jung absolutely deserved this award as well as all black, Asian, etc. filmmakers and actors who have been nominated in the past, I always wonder how much of the decisions leading up to people from foreign and/or marginalized cultures/communities is pure appreciation of their craft and how much is borne out of politics, sympathy, white guilt and other ulterior motives. be that as it may, it's great that the Oscars have been emphasizing diversity these last years, I'm happy to see Bong Joon-Ho and Young Yuh-Jung being acknowledged and celebrated over the world and I'm proud to be a Korean.
