I witnessed her live in Berlin the 17th of May, it was incredible :D She played Beethoven, Schönberg, Ligeti, Scriabin, Albéniz, Kapustin, and almost a DOZEN encore pieces, each one separated by a lot of (standing) applause and Yuja bows of course :D

Thats a really interesting comment. Reminds me of an old friend of mine, she has a PhD in chemical engineering AND medicine, and is a professor of cardiology now. When you meet her, she has the exact same energy... really kind of "chill seems not even ambitious" and adorable personality with zero ego and at the same time she is so OP it's unreal 😂 But everyone loves her because her energy is just pure positivity and friendliness, despite having a mind sharper than a Katana by Hattori Hanzo 😅

i feel like she consciously tries to be as laid back and confident as she can so that it will reflect in her playing. like, if you force yourself to smile, your brain will be tricked to give the happy hormones (:D). so i see the bowing as relaxing before and after such intense focusing. it also just looks very graceful and dancer-esque, i admire her unapologetic attitude so much as a hunchbacked mouse

When asked about the way she bows Yuja said the deep bow is to show her appreciation for the audience who comes to see her craft. I might add it's also a culturally Asian thing in that a deeper bow is a common expression to show respect and gratitude.

When Piergiorgio is listening to Yuja playing at 11 years old at the end, and leaves the room in disgust (obviously feeling unworthy), that was so funny! Though in reality, this is pretty much how so many of us pianists feel. I thank God every day that I am at the very least a decent composer....Ha! ... Peace! 🎼❤☮

The guy in the second clip is Tarmo Peltokoski, a Finnish pianist, composer and conductor. I've been in a piano competition with him (he won easily) and I've seen him live twice since that. I can tell you, that guy is a genius. His improvisation skills are unbelievable. He does these encores where he improvises pieces based on popular tunes suggested by the audience. And on top of that, he's also the nicest and funniest guy!

I guess I could call myself a piano prodigy, and I can relate to this. I can sight read pieces, and hard ones, incredibly fast. I recognize chord progression, and I have very good technique, and I learn quick as a result of this.

oh god! I'm 16 (turned 16 on Monday) and I can only play Chopin's ballade no.1 and Clair de Lune in terms of "big pieces". that last part when she was 11 was just depressing to watch, but still, she is just absolutely amazing!!!!!

Chopin's first ballade is no joke! Lots of challenges leading into the coda and of course the coda itself. But you're right, there's no doubt hearing her play like that was at least a little bit depressing hahaha

I learnt some new things about my hands and their ability XD. Anyway, watching Yuja tho just is a whole different perspective, I mean watching most high end pianists is just jaw dropping.

When Kreisler heard Heifetz play, he is said to have remarked, "We might as well take our fiddles and break them across our knees." Every time I hear Yuja Wang play, I want to fill my piano with water to the brim and drown myself in it. And I'm a violinist. I can't imagine what pianists feel like.

I'm somewhat an old fashion person at 68 years old and sometimes I'm critical of modern stuff, but Yuja wang is so great at she does that everything has to be forgiven when it comes to her dress code. Her virtuosi is so great that nothing else matters. God Bless her.

I'm 57 and over the years I've watched many classical musicians talk about their art as well as perform. Yuja Wang has brought a very refreshing energy as well as sheer brilliance to the classical piano world. And what a delighful personality she possesses. Her detractors are mostly miserable, envious, racists; the remainder are embittered, lesser or failed musicians.
