Loved the world over. I've never seen her live, sadly. A wonderful example of a strong, extraordinarily talented young woman who is a firebrand for free expression. I love this woman, so much admiration for her.

Love the idea that Wang is using the latest technology - might be less stress performing with ipad Pro? Let's you store music.
I listened three times. First time not focussed on it " Wait What?" second time fully enjoyed though not with headphones, and third time to show my son.

That piano sounded a little too bright for that Glass etude; however, she definitely played it better than the composer ever could. Makes me melancholy for the tv show Succession . . . alternating between despair and tragedy . . .

@@renegrosheintz-laval9146 Well, first off, what pianist's hands! I bet he can cover a 10th with ease. As to his playing, a lovely and thoughtful rendition. (Live from the Yellow Lounge) His dynamic control was brilliant. It is never easy to play a melodic voice in MF with a harmonic voice in P, simultaneously in the same hand. I realize that isn't so hard for professionals, but it always impresses me.

Why was she wearing a pair of high heels that’s one size bigger on the stage? Wouldn’t that be dangerous?

Personal opinion: Despite the main melody (which consists of around 10 notes) being beautiful, the whole song sounds empty and shallow. I feel this way about much of the most "famous" contemporary music. It lacks depth and doesn't have existential layers, only technical ones. There's so much chaos and noise around a few notes, making many songs sound almost the same. They may sound different, but what they deliver is essentially the same, as if they were all written by the same person. To me, this indicates an alarming lack of personality in people today, even in those who are acclaimed as artists. I am not talking about the pianists but those who compose the music that later will reach us at home through the main stream channel such as KZbin. Or maybe this type of music is a genre and I just don't like?

Yuja Wang performing a composition by Phillip Glass is like Barack Obama delivering a speech written by Donald Trump.
@amanoutetue-miche65912 ай бұрын
You're a bit tough ! If you listen only to this one, you can't notice Glass' compositions are "always the same" 😅 And maybe you won't agree, but I think the way Yuja Wang plays it, makes it become melodic and even emotive. But that's only my mind... I love Miss Wang 😍
@jamescecil35632 ай бұрын
@@amanoutetue-miche6591 , , I understand what you mean, but tough or not, I'm quite certain that world-class classical musicians are tough by discipline; I'd be curious to know what they think of Glass' music. Banal is the word that comes to mind.
@amanoutetue-miche65912 ай бұрын
@@jamescecil3563 Indeed, I agree with you. Anyway, I always enjoy when I hear YW play this one. Have a good day !
@MP-wx8vl2 ай бұрын
Same as I think of many contemporary composers - their pieces often consist of a simple melody with banal harmonic and dynamic variations. It is fine to create a mood in a movie scene, but sounds poor in a concert hall compared to Bach or Rachmaninov whose music has infinite variations and developments.
