I'm quite surprised that most people (that's watching this video) did not know that this was in fact Volodo's famous version of Turkish March (with a bit of improvisation by Yuja Wang). What she played was actually clean, clear and precise. =)

J don't agree with Volofos-F Say- clown Lang Lang here, otherwise j prefer seriously Lola Astanova ; Y Wang must remain a classical pianist no play jokes Alla Turca because thete is better !

Volodos and Fazil Say are not clowns, altough Say often try to rivals with the ridicolous faces of Lang Lang. Please do not mix chocolate with another brown cream of very different nature. Astanova began, when very very young, in an interesting way, as she had good masters (hear the video with Moments musicaux n.4 of Rachmaninov), ...in the prosecution tried to find the limit between piano music and lap dance, now... other two inches cutting her miniskirt and she'll be ready for OnlyFans...

The radio host should have mentioned that this is an arrangement of the Turkish March by the pianist Arcadi Volodos.

True, but Yuja plays it even better than Volodos. And that's saying a lot considering Volodos is a phenomenal pianist.
@BilboBagless
@BilboBagless 9 жыл бұрын
Vette gaddia I don't know about that. Certainly it's a matter of opinion but I feel like I hear more personality from Volodos. While Yuja's sounds faster and more played mechanically almost to mechanically. I just prefer the sound of Volodos that's all lol.
@frintonearnshaw
@frintonearnshaw 9 жыл бұрын
AlmostEpic I think I agree about that, although he isn't necessarily delivering a live performance. His playing sounds a bit like he looks - even though he can do amazing delicacy there's always an underlying solidity which is quite distinctive. His only Achilles heel - if I can mix my metaphors - is his stomach! I sat on a stage seat in the RFH in London a few years ago when he was -playing Prokofiev 2 - and he does encounter a few - er - natural obstacles when he tries to cross his arms too far! With Yuja Wang I just can't understand where all the power is coming from.

You people saying negative things about this video, you're all wasting your time. I myself tamper with classical pieces and I can assure, we don't care when you tell us that Mozart or Chopin are rolling in their graves or that it's an abomination. We know the original piece is beautiful, and not a single modified version can beat the creativity and innovation the original piece has brought to music. The original piece isn't going anywhere. After we tamper with it, it'll still be there. We just do it for the sake of creativity and fun.

When she is on the piano bench, Yuja is pretty much there to play, not mess around. When she comes onstage to perform say a concerto with an orchestra, she just sits down usually takes one crank at the seat adjustment knobs and begins. If the piano is the first voice to be heard, the conductor had best not mess around with "Grand Manner," stuff on the podium, or she will be three staves down before the conductor can raise his hand.

James Rawlins The left-hand acrobatics here make stride piano (a la Fats Waller and others) look like child's play. I notice that, for a petite woman, she has very large hands with long fingers. That, plus 100,000 hours of practice and prodigious talent, helps us understand how she can play so well.

Why is everybody losing their shit over her performance, I thought this was completely amazing. When Cziffra, Rachmaninov, Gershwin or Hamelin do it everybody think it's amazing. Is it because she's a woman, or Asian ? Or because Mozart is sacred ? Musicality shouldn't be bound to the score. The work accomplished here may be greater than the author's work on the piece itself. So stop bitching about her performance...

Other person pointed that this is a variation by Volodos. I hope is not gender or race. Many people don't know that variations were common, Mozart himself, did many times. The issue is some people belive music and all forms of art, and even lenguage needs to be forzen in time. The interpretation is amazing. I see more people prazing her than the other way arround. Maybe you are victim ofconfirmation bias, or maybe is me.

She's actually mixing two different versions. she starts with the original by mozart, then segues into the super famous paraphrase of this by Arkady Volodos, which is super advanced and insane. there's an older video from 2007 of her playing the Volodos version from start to finish and its amazing. it's called "House of flying fingers"

The arranger mr Arcadi Volodos deserved mention here for creating such an amazing arrangement! For me...I am always respectful of Arrangers who have the skillful talent in creating wonderful rich harmonies and melodies as you can hear in this piece. Pianists who play well...sure...they deserve being mentioned too. However... it takes a special talent to be able create this crazy arrangement. If you were ask Yuja Wang to create another killer version of TURKISH MARCH that is on par with this version... I will be super surprised if she can. As far as I know... i have never heard her create any arrangement. all she does is play every single note in the score....created/written by someone else, not her.
