YUJIRO HANMA'S DEPRESSION

When you're at the top, there's nowhere else to go.
When you are at the top there is nothing to aim for. The top is empty and has nothing around. There's nothing to achieve by taking a step.
So, what's the point of making it all the way to the top?

Pickle and Musashi are at least somewhere in the 90s from what we've seen (look at how easily Musashi cut Yujiro), Baki is in the low 80s and rising every day, Kaku is level 78 (at least), Retsu was like 60 when he died, Hanayama is 60, and Doppo and Shibukawa are at least above 50.

That’s why Yujiro is my favorite fictional character of all time he’s unique. He is at the top of knowledge and strength. And he found satisfaction and he was proud that baki had achieved the level he did. Yes Yujiro is nature and chaos. But he also has complete control over his mind and body. He is the best.

This kinda relates to my theory on why Yuichiro seems weaker than Yujiro, people always point out Doppo (maybe?) breaking his jaw makes him weaker than his son. I think Yuichiro made the same climb as Yujiro, he reached the height of strength and stood alone above everyone. But, unlike Yujiro, I think Yuichiro stopped climbing. He did not take another step and continue reaching higher heights, he just waited for someone else to climb the mountain and challenge him at the top. People like Doppo were closing the gap between them and Yuchiro probably was thrilled that he wasn't alone in his strength. Not to say Yuichiro couldn't become stronger but he knew that crushing everyone like ants and dying without any challenges in life would be unfulfilling. And maybe he told Yujiro this as a child, but Yujiro probably wouldn't listen and did the opposite of what he was told and never stopped climbing higher, only knowing his father was right when he was truly alone in the world. And you can sort of see this in the lead up to the Musashi arc when everyone is bored. Everyone has been chasing Yujiro for so long that anything less than an impossibly powerful force is tedious, boring even. I think all the current top fighters are in a class so above everyone ese, so high up the mountain, that nothing else feels worthwhile.

The Amount of resentment Yujiro demonstrates against his fathers memory, Yuichiro may not have been stronger, but his son knew he had the potential. Probably seen him as he greatest challenge, but it probably drove him mad seeing his dad "not fight seriously" and also having fun, while Yujiro wanted that same exp with his Father. Then it comes full circle having that experience with his son.

I think the person who will give Yuijiro the greatest happiness is the one who will rise above him. Because the only emotion Yuijiro doesn't feel is defeat. Everyone loses on the way to the top. But Yuijiro is out of this fiction. He was born to rise to the top. He showed miracles even in his infancy. In short, Yuijiro represents the chosen one. The main character is Baki. However, Yuijiro represents the pinnacle of the manga. However, this peak is a constantly rising peak. Because Yuijiro can never regress in strength. On the contrary, he always rises physically, mentally, spiritually and as a fighter. Therefore, to beat Yuijiro, it is necessary to work harder than him. Except for Baki and Jack, there is no character that makes progress in this direction. Because both of them are training to the death to climb the ever-rising peak.

A long time ago I used to have a character in stories I wrote who was basically a Gary Stu (look it up) because I always wanted to be the strongest and the invulnerable one who fights for justice and so on. Growing up I realized that this invulnerable and immortal being I made was going to be also the lonely one, because everyone and everything around him will eventually wither and die, leaving him in a desert world or floating into space, mind trapped in his own thoughts. I hated that thought and I still do. A friend of mine introduced me to Baki and he was very exalted by the characters, chief among them Yujiro. I didn't like Yujiro at first, in fact he was the reason I didn't go further in the series and watched something more on my level, which is Kengan Ashura (yeah, yeah, I know, but in the end I fell in love more with the tragic backgrounds of some of the characters than their antics in the arena and Karura Kure is the best, fight me). KZbin recommended some videos about Baki like this one and slowly I started to appreciate it more and more, even Yujiro, especially after this video, who basically told me "he's like the Gary Stu you made when you were like 15 yo, only more 'evil' but still condemned to be alone for having no equals" and the fact that his equal ends up being his favorite son really hits me in the feels. Thank you sir, may I have another one?

Let me put it this way: When you play Skyrim(not as a stealth archer) you enjoy getting stronger and beating harder and harder enemies from lvl 1-50. By the time you hit 50, you enjoy being an invincible badass after frost trolls, dragons and dragon priests can no longer stop you. there’s no challenge or fun in fighting by lvl 60, and you just start to screw around, messing with NPC’s while you still get stronger. Yujiro was born at lvl 60.

Suffering from success hehe... & even after couple of years layer & find some of them years after they had gud memories by how unbeatable I was but for me I just felt lonely in way...since I did offer my full respect to anyone that could just give me an L going full power... but I never got that... 😅

Imagine being the Max Level player on your favorite game, lots of skills, powers, techniques, etc you can use. But when you use them on enemies, it immediately one shots them, leaving the fun so you basically can't go all out and experience actual thrill. Meanwhile another player who is your friend is close to being at max level, who you've been trying to help reach that for so long. He can tank your attacks and skills you've wanted to use for a long time. You tried so many techniques and combos you wanted to execute. And best of all, he is fighting back. You finally feel satisfied about fighting in this game once more.

The scariest feeling is getting what you wanted only to find it wasnt as nice as you hoped. That is Yujiro. He achieved his goal and is the strongest...but found it wanting. He realized when you are on the top you are all alone. You have no equals. No friends. No loved ones. Just rivals gunning for you, people afraid of you, of leeches looking to ride on your coattails. He cant even enjoy defending his title as the strongest because everyone is so much weaker than him that its boring. Yujiro is in a hell of his own making. And that is the worst kind of hell.

What bothers me about this whole making Yujiro relatable and sympathetic schtick is that it directly comes into conflict with the way Itagaki originally wrote Yujiro and to be honest it's completely his fault. He didn't really plan for the far future while making the series, therefore creating a gigantic chasm between the unlikable psychopath that killed the mother of his own child in front of said child(and may other heinous acts) and the sort of likable/relatable father figure he is supposed to be portrayed as now. I don't know, just because I was on the ride since the beginning and witnessed the original portrayal of Yujiro I just can't buy this narrative of "proud father/proud son mutually respect each other" bullshit. While the series was getting closer and closer to the father son fight you could tell Itagaki was slowly but surely trying to sweep the original but albeit more basic theme of revenge under the rug in favor of his "hurr durr so this is what it means fo be strong" fetish. Baki slowly goes from the goal of killing Yujiro to wanting to be stronger than him to just wanting to be acknowledged as his equally strong son. People can try to argue me by bringing in the fact that the series isn't done yet but given how the father son fight ended it is all but clear that the original theme of the story is long dead. Itagaki occasionally tries to reel it back in, reminding us that Yujiro IS the antagonist after all with stuff like the rapist chapter or what other questionable bs he gets up to in his spare time, but it simply doesn't mend the fact that his earlier transgressions(which are pivotal to the story) were never never answered for or even mentioned again for that matter. My headcanon to cope with all this inconsistency is that Baki took one too many blows to the head or/and became a psychopath like his father, thus metaphorically pissing on his mother and Yasha ape's graves. Such good morals taught to us by a series that glorifies psychopathic murderous rapists, lol. What else can you expect from a battle manga in that sense tho. To wrap this long ass wall of text up, I don't hate Yujiro, I love the character but that doesn't mean I approve of his actions or the way other characters seem to conveniently forget about them when the plot demands it.

@@timberwolfbrother You asked me what I thought he deserved, morally speaking. I never wrote this with the intention of it having any depth story wise. Ofc I wouldn't use such a dry ass conclusion if I were to actually WRITE THE SERIES myself but your question wasn't framed that way. If you ask me, I think it was purposely ambiguous so you could have your "gotcha" moment in case I wouldn't pick up on the hidden context of your inquiry. If I'm wrong I apologize. Also, jfc people jump fast af on hate trains on here, don't they? Lmao

No, the series will end with a Spirit Yuichiro vs Baki and Yujiro. Baki will continue to grow stronger. Yujiro will become a humbler person like Vegeta from DBZ and set aside his pride to work with his son to defeat the former strongest on the earth.

I can't wait for Baki or Jack to surpass Yujiro. The series should end when Yujiro is long dead and Baki passes the torch to his offspring as they visit Yujiro's tomb.
