This is an incredible performance btw it’s by Jelly Roll Morton

Classical because of the complex arrangement, elaborate scaling, complex fingering and technique. Crescendo, temp change, movement, etc... I know it's no classical in the sense of a large amount of instruments playing together to play a piece - but the foundation is there. One's man opinion anyway, it's totally cool you don't see it - everyone sees things in their own way!

Praticamente fantastico!!!!

I know you say that because you love the art form that is Ragtime, as do I. But... to the new listener, that's basically what it is :)

Of course its not Ragtime as in Scott Joplin, James Scott and Joseph lamb. Its not really Stride either. Jelly Roll Morton is simply Jelly Roll Morton. One of a kind and never to be repeated.

The best version of this piece is from Gunaar Larsen. Type in Perfect Rag and scroll down to the Pink Piano. Perfection.

I don't doubt your opinion, but that version I find that he plays it way too straight and there should be a bit of swing/speed in this piece.

@@RockSpoon123 I don't disagree with you. My taste is more classical. Maybe that's why i rave about it.

Jelly Rolls recording is the greatest. I love the way he plays is under the title of "Sporting House Rag"

The piano is an antique Weber upright from around 1880-1900.

Sounds like good stride to me! Not classic ragtime, but really very well played!
@dylan-kerry2 ай бұрын
The piece was originally more of a Stomp, listen to the composer Jelly Roll Mortons play it. This is played in a stride style. Still great
@baxter543112 жыл бұрын
This sounds more like "stride piano" as in James P. Johnson or Fats Waller than ragtime as in Joplin. A very good piece well played nonetheless.

"The Perfect Rag" It's great, but don't you think that title's a little pompous?
@CorruptPianist10 жыл бұрын
...You know what, I think it just might be the perfect rag.

CorruptPianist And everything by Jelly Roll Morton might well be perfect!

Listen to Dick Hyman or Butch Thompson playing it and you'll get a better sense of why it's "perfect". These improvised versions are interesting however not what Morton had in mind.
