I'll have the king's laugh in my ear for the rest of my life, so iconic he was. Charlton and Yul are eternal cultural landmarks for our republic and nation. I've often told others who ask "how will I know that we've passed the point of no return"? And I tell them "when you can no longer find The Ten Commandments listed on network television in the month of April, the show is over. Literally.

I was 9 years old when Yul Brenner came to London to perform Anna And The King. I went with my Nan and Mum. I was in absolute tears at the end and for the applause. I was already a very young fan of his movies and was absolutely besotted with him as a child. Forever imbedded in me, he was beautiful, strong and charismatic to me and his voice made me melt. I loved his performances in film and on stage. To this day, Yul Brenner has left an indelible mark. ❤❤❤

Then I saw The Ten Commandments, The King and I with Deborah Kerr, and The Magnificent Seven. What a man! I've been in love with him ever since (as many women are I am sure) even though the 16 year old kid is now a 63 year old woman. RIP Yul Brynner. You will always have my heart.

I listened in this biography of him several other actors, directors, writers, friends try to describe or pinpoint what he had, but no one could quite put their finger on it, they tried and got somewhat close, but all seemed to love and respect him and that too is rare, so many actors are just spoiled brats with no appreciation these days. Yul Brynner has been in my daily life through the Ten Commandments. I have listened to that movie almost every night for decades while I sleep. I think that I can recite the entire movie. Even though he passed away when I was 8 years old, Im almost 46 now and still admire his work. Rest in peace Yul Brynner.

As a teenager I had such a crush on You Brynner. He had such a presence in movies and on stage that drew the eye, no matter who was staring with him. Not so much that he tried to out do the other actors, but there was just a natural draw towards him even he was the top bad guy.

I was glad to hear his son mention that Yul's most favorite work was acting in The Brothers of Karamazov! They didn't go into all of his movies but for me I enjoyed what he brought to the roles of the villain in Light at the Edge of the World and Buccaneer!

I was blessed to see him on stage in the play "The King and I", in Portland OR. He was outstanding. We all stood and clapped at the end of him singing about the bees and flowers, as well as stood and clapped at the end of the play. I had a friend who delivered pizza several times to him at the end of a very long driveway and he always answered the door and had a chat. He loved talking and sharing. After he passed from lung cancer 1985, I think, he had made a commercial about how dangerous smoking was. Such a loss. To this day I miss him, and wonder what would his next role would be.

@chocolatesouljah3 жыл бұрын
@@gregpickett8816 Yes. I read his son's biography of his father. he has great respect but there were some difficulties including that Rock's mother was an alcoholic. Rock is also a historian and I can see why he might refer to his father by his first name. To be clear, late, great my mother is a woman I love and respect, but I often refer her by first name, if the person I am speaking with, knows who I am referring to "As Ellen Vaughn would say, be kind to others, even when you disagree" and so on.
@charlieangelyoutube3 жыл бұрын
@@gregpickett8816 and Pogglethe we ARE animals anyway. We need to stop looking down on other species. We are narcissists and just horrible toward all life around us. Animal does not equate to monster the latter of which quite often humans are! In any case you should read Rock’s biographical book. I love Yul but you should always listen to people’s accounts and opinions. Undoubtedly Yul was a very attractive, charismatic and talented man. We all have our areas of lack though. How a person is in his professional life doesn’t reflect who he is in his private life. There are people who see their parents as a best friend and refer to them by first name and others who have trauma stemming from their relationship with a parent so they speak of a father by his first name for instance. Please don’t judge unless you are fully aware of all facts.

Just saw the 60th anniversary re-release of 1956 film "The King and I" and was, again, enthralled by Yul Brynner's incredible performance. I especially appreciated the comic touches he brought to the role--the slight smile, the raised eyebrow--the tender interactions with his "children." He was one of a kind, as this bio makes clear. (I also must tip my hat to the recently deceased Marni Nixon, who dubbed the singing for Deborah Kerr in the film, as well as for most of the blockbuster musical films of the '50s and '60s.) Thanks to all great artists who share their gifts with the world.

+Jackie S I so agree!!! Of all his iconic roles, I'll always remember Yul as The King. Interestingly, "The King and I" was the only film in history where TWO women sang the same part! Deborah actually sang the mid-range parts, and Marnie only sang the high notes. When you watch the movie, pay close attention to this, and on the very high parts, you'll hear Nixon's voice kick in at the top. But you won't notice it unless you're really listening. Marnie was SO good at making herself sound like the actors she sang for, wasn't she??

that moment in Westworld when his eyes have been damaged and he gets transfixed by the torchlight is one of the most stunning bits of acting I've ever seen. After watching this great video on Yul Brynner you learn to appreciate him more even though he lived many years ago. His films are timeless. In this country we respect the self made man. Your video showed his growth as a director and an actor. The roles that he played helped him develop. his personality. His was a combination of physical and emotional strength. His own self confidence, his voice and the way he could stare down a person all made him the dominant male in every picture he made and in real life. Listening to those who knew him was special. It’s been many years since I’ve seen any of his pictures but this video made it seem like the 1960’s again. Thank you for having this.
