Purple Yams originated in the Philippines spread to Borneo then to the rest of Asia. Seeing how large those purple yams are, makes me believe they've been growing for years. Good job digging them out. They usually break them into pieaces when others dig them out. Those found in the Philippines are deep purple color. They call it Ube.
