I like how the demons all have some sort of trauma symbolism: Asterion being religious, Kevins being sexual/masochistic [as some people who end up with sexual trauma form a unhealthy relationship with sex], Yuma being possibly just straight up physical abuse [but really I think it could be any, also Yuma also is serving trans-masc energy]. Stardust is the only one that isn't "apparent" but I like to think the goat/bell is similar to being emotionally manipulated and treated more like cattle, or even trauma fawning. De-humanizing and all that! I don't think this is even close to a "meaning" but I thought it was fun to point out, even if two of these are a stretch!

okay so i actually had multiple ways of interpreting what the synth's designs were supposed to represent but this is what i think is most likely yuma is portrayed as a literal demon, whilst also representing what society doesnt see as acceptable. revealing clothing, makeup and traditionally "feminine" clashing with "masculine" appearance, loads of piercings. im also aware that the designs are supposed to be different kinds of trauma, maybe yuma's is psychological? the puppet theme seems to be rather persistent, of course "broken and torn apart" is a metaphorical lyric here, but yuma has literal ball joints. you could pop them on and off like a plaything. see what im getting at? yuma has been manipulated, and scorned for wanting to stand out. of course theres a hole where their heart should be. xingchen (or stardust) has an appearance more resembling nature and livestock. she has a collar with a giant cow bell on it for gods sake, and the moon phases on her skirt might also be a metaphor for fragility and natural processes. maybe she thinks what happened to her was bound to occur at some point, or that it was her "destiny" to be treated this way, but she came out ontop nonetheless. also her ram horns are even more reminiscent and supporting of the livestock motif asterian is a hard one actually, i think maybe based on the crosses and golden horns, apart from being a style and color choice, is pointing towards a theme of angels and religious trauma. his clothes are rather formal, like ones you might wear to a procession. i genuinely dont have many other ideas as i dont have much knowledge on religious topics kevin is literally tied up, and not in a way that anybody could tie themselves up. the bodysuit combined with the ropes give very obvious sexual and physical trauma. i also think that the collar contributes even more to the idea of trauma specifically involving being degraded against ones will. i could and would say more but its probably not in anybodys (including my own) best interest for me to do so and if youre wondering why i did this? i dont know. ive been hyperfixating on this one song so hard that i have ingrained it into everything i do. this song resonates so much with me that i dont think its even laughable anymore. i even made a fucking mv. this is the beginning of the end.

it's really hard for me to figure out what ghost's songs could mean, but this one gives me the impression of like, triumph over someone's abuser? that's the general gist but i want to guess what each character could have gone through based on their designs. yuma could be being controlled and manipulated as suggested by the drawing of him with strings and his doll-like design. the others have me confused tbh 💀 asterian might be religious trauma because of his clothes which remind me of something a priest or pastor would wear. kevin can be something sexual?? i think?? the way his shorts are, well, short among other details of his clothes, and being tied up by ropes makes me think of that. i think the idea of being trapped and having a lack of freedom also works because of the ropes. for stardust i could not think of anything please help 😭 edit: i think stardust is a scapegoat or something? her horns are different from the others' and they resemble the horns of a goat in that case she would have been in a situation where she got blamed for everything that she went through like getting victim blamed by the abuser

I think there might not be a singular scapegoat, more just all of them fulfilling different roles, but Yuma might be closest to the singular one since he's shown being taken apart and most of the times where it's closest to directly mentioning the scapegoat being harmed it's him, and also I think religious imagery might be somewhat important? The idea of the scapegoat is used a lot in religion, and the whole "bow down and worship me" thing.

To me it seems like this song is about being blamed for everything or being abused for one’s entire life, hence the name scapegoat. Whoever is singing is getting increasingly angry about this, and doesn’t want to be used as a “lightning rod” any longer. This song probably represents the breaking point of the protagonist, becoming everything people accused them of being (hence the “now do you hate me, are you afraid of me” chorus). The protagonist has essentially become everything people have blamed them for.

This song hits so close to home and tackles these themes in a really good way, I love when artists tackle mental health and abuse themes in more abstract ways since I always find it way more accurate to those feelings and experiences than just showing it at face value. And, not to mention the beautiful character designs and how they imply what their story is even when only Yuma is the main singer, I’d love to see more of these characters I’m already so invested in them!
