Yumi Zouma

Күн бұрын

We wanted to play a concert during the COVID-19 lockdown. We were stuck in different countries, but managed to record an extremely socially-distant set with Josh, Olivia, and Charlie playing via New York, New Zealand, and London, and Christie performing in Studio One of Hackney Studios.
A big thank you to:
Gareth Nunns - Lighting Design
Mark Meggy - Lighting Design
Sabina Claici - DOP / Camera Op
Kit Sullivan - Camera Op
Stevie Squire - Hair & Makeup
Ezra Simons - Video Production & Editing
Phil Jones - Production Manager
Lots of love,
Yumi Zouma xx

the cover of "She's Electric" is by far the best song of this gorgeous performance. It's a damn shame, great sorrow, like a rock tied to my neck, like barbed wire around my wrist, that it is not released as a single. I know that it exists in "(What's The Story?) Morning Glory" but this version is thousand times better and I am willing to die on that hill. I'll sigh in relief if this version of the song gets a standalone release, otherwise I'll walk the earth until the end of my days with a missing piece of my heart...

I feel like In Blue is such a beautiful yet underated song. I've scoured the internet looking for any performances of it other than the official song, I'd love to see them include In Blue in their set if they ever do something like this again. Yumi Zouma have created my 3 favourite songs of all time (In Blue, Powder Blue, In The Eyes of Our Love) and I can't wait to hear more from them! Love your music so much guys ❤

luv yumi zouma..there's somethin' bout this softer kind of bop or pop that's refreshing..quiets the mind, kind of, and pulls me back to soberland from whatever residual thoughts/emotions i got after listening other genres. Olivia is fascinating to watch..making it look so easy and casual..i've seen many, but the steady backbeat and the way she hits it just enough kinda remind me of Steve Gadd.

Their music seems to be inducing something along the lines of a flow state for appreciation. It makes one feel in the moment and introspective of appreciative feelings. I think it does this through its evocation of thoughts of tranquilizing companionship, achieved with such a voice tone and notes with a similar softness. I think it makes us think of an environment that excludes confrontation and goal-seeking, allowing us to feel at peace with slowing down and letting go for that moment. I think the compassionate, calmly blissful social expressions that get perceived from this music induce these states because of how sensing such tranquility in others (vocals & some instrumentals) and our environment (instrumentals) makes humans feel more accepting of the moment instead of experiencing the motivational anxiety of goal-seeking and confrontation. It has a similar effect as listening to someone say nice things in a soft voice - it plays on our instinct to try to preserve tranquil and harmonious social environments as opposed to seeking paths away from one's current state when the social environment is different. I think the instrumentals add even more depth to this effect by also invoking our appreciation of symmetry (harmony) and the beauty of various physical events implied by various sounds. These instrumentals make me think more of the goings on of nature than of physical human activity. I don't think of creating, walking, or fighting, I think of sitting in a grassy field with a breeze in the air, or having a picnic in view of a waterfall, but far enough away for it to not be loud. But mostly I just think of happy people enjoying the positive feeling of being in a state/environment that we are evolutionarily motivated to preserve and that we get a mental reward for. Usually there's not a visual/spatial element to this imaginative experience for me, it's just this sense of being in a state that is good, so I should slow down and let it happen to me instead of finding a way to change it. There also seems to be some element of appreciating the expressions of the vocalist, as if you were witnessing someone in the above described state who is expressing it with calm, happy vulnerability in a way that is attractive and inspiriting to be around. It's really quite a gift to be able to hack such a feeling out of our minds so easily.

I just got introduced to your work and I was simply blown away! Such breathtaking melodies and beautiful lyrics…dreamy tracks that sweep you away to another, much much better place…for me evokes and distills the best of 10,000 maniacs, Dido, Cranberries, Prefab Sprout, Dream Academy, New Order and even Moby…everyone has mastery of respective instrument, drumming is Stephen Morris level and more, vocals soothe like a cool balm on sunburnt skin, basslines resonate down to your bones, and guitar riffs are like rain on parched pavement…whilst the distinctive sound and feel is all your own! Such a thrill to come across your amazing artistry and so much of your tracks yet for me to listen and experience…it is going to be a great summer indeed! Yumi Zouma, more please!
