@midnaphai3 жыл бұрын
It's easy to get a hamster, rabbit or mouse for cheap and they aren't expected to live long anyways so people treat them like made in china discount shirts, throwing them away and buying a new one when they break, just with the addition of making a tiktok video about their "crazy" behaving pet first. There should be licenses for being allowed to own any pet but the cheap and easy ones aren't "worth" enough to be protected with actual treatment controls (money > everything else) so abusive fame wh*re sh*theads can keep going with their disgusting businesses. People who try to get attention by abusing their pets are the absolute worst psychopaths... like if you can't even treat a loving fluffy little animal good you're just a bad person from the depth of your rotten soul.

The one where the kid threw the hamster on a pillow, they’re only like 11 or 12 years old. It’s sad seeing all these kids abusing their animals on social media just for clout, it gives them a horrible mindset that all animals are expendable and you could just buy another one. It’s like that cat video where a young girl is holding a cat up and the second it makes a noise (in protest because it’s scared-she’s holding it by the nape of the neck-it’s a fully grown cat and that can be very painful for them) she throws it across the room and laughs, all for a TikTok. And the fact that they think it’s okay because others are laughing or giving them likes, is gross, and clearly their parents don’t care either if they’re just allowed to do it with no consequences

@Wide Putin well, thats ok to some degree, like most things! If you mean you treat them all with love, great!! That's fantastic. Every animal deserves to be loved and treated well! It just becomes a problem when, for example with chihuahuas and "toy breeds", people end up doing many things to their dog that actually make it unhappy, such as forcing it to dress up, forcing it to cuddle, stuff like that -- that the dog clearly shows it doesn't want to do! But it's like, 'killing them with kindness'. The owners usually don't mean anything bad, they're showing love the way they would to a human baby and whatnot, showering them with what they THINK the dog (or any animal, this is just the example) enjoys without actually realising the body language and stuff that shows they're actually uncomfortable/unhappy with it. Also a problem with quite a few behavioural things sometimes, i.e. parrot owners are particularly bad about this I think.. they treat their pet birds like dogs, or children, and just want to constantly be up in their face giving them kisses and petting them all over and snuggling them, even sleeping with them in the same bed, thinking that shows the bird how much they really love it!!! And they do love it, of course. But the birds might not be comfortable with, for example, being held tightly and cuddled, or having hands all up in their face, and people invading their personal bubble all the time, etc. They forget to pay attention to what the bird wants and end up damaging the trust between them..! Not to mention petting a bird all over is a big no-no because it's sexually stimulating them and increases hormones and aggression (and can even cause health issues!), but many people don't realise. Because they see their bird enjoys it, but don't realise that they're enjoying it far TOO much..! And they're actually being kinda mean to their bird by sending such confusing signals and frustrating them.. Anyways sorry for the long rambling comment, I get carried away so easily when it comes to animals haha. Just like you, I love all animals very dearly.. so I can't help but talk a lot about these things xD
@mimthyss3 жыл бұрын
@Wide Putin TLDR: humanising animals can be a very problematic thing as it affects how we view them and their behaviours and more often than not leads to unintentionally poor handling of an animal, but as long as you aren't treating them as PEOPLE but as the animal that they actually are and thus recognising their actual welfare needs, it's all good.

This trend is just so bizarre. They have to be aware, on some level, that what they’re doing is harmful and abusive. The cat video, for example. The owners had to have known that something was going to happen- maybe even counting on something bad to happen- when they put that little hamster down on front of their cat. The fact that they still posted it even though the hamster was injured tells me they put them together with the intent of having the cat jump on it. And even if they were THAT stupid to think nothing would happen, which I think is likely the case with Swaggy, they just double down and shift all the blame over to the animal because A) it’s easier to blame the pet than it is to take personal accountability and B) they can always profit off of it by making it a 3 parter where the injured pet is ‘taken to the vet’ and grieving over a dead pet.

I used to have a rabbit and after I had him for a couple years I got a cairn terrier. A dog specifically bred to hunt small animals like rabbits. My dog would always try to get the rabbit and I felt bad because I could tell the rabbit felt scared but I was a kid and my parents said it was fine and didn’t want to do anything about it so I reluctantly let it be. A couple times the dog got to the rabbit and really scared him. He never got hurt (we took him to the vet) but he would be so scared he would be shaking and I would have to carefully look after him for a couple days. My rabbit ended up dying after a couple years from unrelated causes. I always felt really bad because I know my rabbit often suffered after we got the dog. I selfishly kept him because I loved him too much to let him go but I ended up hurting him more. I knew it was wrong to have the dog so close to the rabbit and I should of stood up for myself and made my parents come up with proper arrangements so the rabbit was comfortable. My dad would always joke about how my dog wanted to eat the rabbit and my dad would also often joke about making rabbit stew. My dad would never intentionally hurt the rabbit but those comments are definitely disturbing and shows he didn’t care for it as much as other lives. It makes me sad that I had to hurt my rabbit to learn but at least now I know to never do that again. I’ve really wanted a pet mouse for years but I chose not to get one because I would be putting its life at risk by keeping it in the same house as my dog. I won’t make the same mistake again.

i often really hate when people humanize their pets, and it's the most harmful when i see it with reptiles or any other animals that barely have emotional function. people say that it's not harmful but it IS. small animals get hurt all because owners think that their dogs or cats need "friends" or jeopardize their reptile's health by taking it out of their tanks for too long because they associate them looking for warmth for affectionate cuddling. i have witnessed a woman kill her snake this way. of course, this isn't as detrimental as the other forms of abuse seen in this video, and animals do have their own form of feelings but it's not in the way humans think or behave edit: also another add on, i've seen a video saying "and they say lizards don't have feelings" while showing a lizard huddling up to its owner.... for a heat source. and it bothered me because LIZARDS DON'T HAVE FEELINGS. THEY'RE PHYSICALLY INCAPABLE OF IT. THEY DON'T HAVE THE BRAIN CAPACITY. STOP

Agreed. I'm guilty of doing it too to be fair, and it's certainly hard to remind myself that no matter how cute and sweet the animal is, and how much I adore it, they don't think like I do. I have to mentally kick myself from time to time when I notice I'm viewing animals through a human lens, especially when it's my pet(s) or an animal under my temporary care since like you say, treating them as human-like can actually be very detrimental and often is. To clarify I've never actively done anything towards an animal that treats it as human, it's always just been small things like "oh look at his little face, he looks so sad/happy" etc. But as soon as I say it I remember that that is just how I see it and doesn't actually indicate their mood at all lol. Anyways, yeah, I agree. It's uhhh... an 'underappreciated'? Issue. Not enough people realise the harm in it and it's an incredibly easy trap to fall into, especially for people who just really dearly love animals. It's hard to talk about too, since many people don't see the harm or understand even if you try to explain, and just go on doing whatever they want to..

I live in a city that has a Japanese garden (we're sister cities with a city in Japan, and they actually sent landscapers over from Japan to build this garden, it's just lovely), and the pond there had koi fish in it. Koi fish are really long-lived. I remember naming some of them as a toddler, and they were still there as a teenager. Some kid released their goldfish into the pond, and it got all of koi fish sick. Every single one of them died. Years later, my coworker, whom I hadn't known at the time, admitted it was her sister who released the fish. I wanted to break her nose. Don't release fish into the wild! Especially ones you just got! You never know if they're sick. I got a very healthy looking fish from a shop once, and it turned out it had ich. Goodbye tank. Just because you get it from a shop doesn't mean it is 100% healthy, and you never know what immunities a population of wild fish will lack. Just... god, I wish people were smarter....

I felt to sorry for the little guy that I bought him. BUT. I wouldn't have done it if the breeder hadn't told me he was selling the last of his pigeons because he wanted to give up fancy pigeons and wanted to focus on racer pigeons (which were free-roaming except for one couple that also lived in that rabbit hutch). The pigeon is almost four months old now, fully grown, and is thriving.

would clipping chicken's wings be bad? like, it's obviously debilitating for more-flighted birds but chickens really don't fly much so would it affect their normal behavior aside from the occasional jumping of fences?
@youreinvalid84933 жыл бұрын
Clipping chickens wings isn't bad. Like you said, they're flightless birds. Clipping their wings therefore doesn't limit them in any way except being able to jump high, which doesn't majorly impact their lives. It actually benefits a lot of them, as it stops them from escaping out of people's property by jumping fences, which usually ends in them being killed. Anyways yeah, in short it's perfectly ok to clip chickens wings, just not flightless birds/birds that need stimulation by flying.
@_nails__4__life_4773 жыл бұрын
@@youreinvalid8493 not being able to get away properly will cause them harm. clipping flight birds wings makes them unable to fly or control flight if they do catch air so the same would happen to a chicken or duck or whatever, if an anaimal is born with teeth, antennas, nails/claws, or wings leave them alone or dont get them as a pet
@youreinvalid84933 жыл бұрын
@@_nails__4__life_477 you very clearly don't know what you're talking about. Chickens don't need to "control flight" because they can't fly. The fact you're trying to compare ducks and chickens is embarrassing..chickens are flightless, ducks are constantly flying.. Comparing teeth and claws (which as essential for the animals that have them) and clipping the wings of birds that FLY, to clipping the wings of flightless birds is absolutely ridiculous. Clipping your dogs nails to avoid them harming themselves of you is ok(as you're still leaving the claws and they can still use them), as is clipping a chickens(as they still have their wings and can glide when necessary), but it avoids them escaping or harming themselves trying to jump someone. Chickens can't possibly "catch air", if you mean flying. If you mean gliding, they still do that with clipped wings. Do research before "correcting" people or pretending you know what you're talking about.
@youreinvalid84933 жыл бұрын
@@_nails__4__life_477 your comparisons are genuinely so ridiculous. You have absolutely no valid points in your comment. Your statement "if chickens didn't need their wings then they wouldn't have them" and comparing it to declawing makes me question if you actually know what clipping wings is. You're acting as if clipping a chickens wings is removing their wings. You also need to stop bringing up small, flying birds to better your statements, since that's not at all what we're talking about. Clipping the wings of a bird that can fly/needs flight stimulation to be happy is disgusting and people who do it shouldn't be allowed birds. However nothing else was valid. Chicken can still catch a small amount of air with clipped wings, just avoids them catching enough air to get themselves in difficult situations. They can still jump on and off of things because they still have all the strength their wings originally had and can still glide. They have complete control when jumping to and from things as long as the wings are clipped evenly. The loss of control you're talking about only occurs if the wings are clipped incorrectly. It doesn't at all "limit an animals mobility". They can still do literally everything they could do before with the acception of catching more air than needed. Your paralysed person in a wheelchair reference just proved how little you understand the situation but I'll play along if it'll make you feel better. Clipping a chickens wings for absolutely no reason is stupid and something that nobody does. It's done when a chicken keeps jumping fences/getting themselves in bad situations by going somewhere they shouldn't. In the 'great comparison' you made, you'd be cutting off someone's legs for no reason, which isn't what we're talking about. They're clipping the chickens wings for the good of the chicken. So no, amputating a paralysed persons legs for no reason isn't ok, but if their legs were causing issues/there was a problem in their leg that's putting them at risk, it's the right thing to do. Same as the chickens. Their wings are still completely usable. The fact you're saying my head is up my arse and calling me immature just because you disagree with something (which you're wrong about, might I add), tells me you're either a child or a very immature adult yourself. Insults have no place in a decent conversation, which it appears you can't have. Either way I hope you grow up/educate yourself on the topic rather than getting defensive and refusing to admit you may be wrong. Considering how you're speaking I can safely use your own phrase against you and say your head is far too much up your own arse to hear any side of the conversation other than your own. I usually end most conversations on KZbin with some sort of compromise or by telling the person we don't agree but that's alright, but I can see by your immaturity that that won't be the case with you..so I'll just end this here and let you know I won't be replying to any more mindless comments, I don't have time to waste on things that are clearly going nowhere. Feel free to respond or get the last word on if it will make you feel better, or don't. Either way I most likely won't be reading and definitely won't be replying to whatever this is. Either way, I hope you have a great day!

Idk why, but the one with the cats and hamster gave me intense anxiety. It reminded me a little too much of my bunny, Amazo's death since our dog just randomly attacked her out of nowhere. It hadn't happened before and we'd had the bunny around for 5 years, so we werent expecting it. Now days we keep our bunnies and dog separated so that won't happen again (like if the dogs are out the bunnies are in their cages, and Visa versa), but I still get extreme anxiety from those type of situations. Sorry about the ramble, I just needed to talk about it to relieve some anxiety after watching that. I'm extremely upset by the owner since they were aware of their cats wanting to attack, and I just wanna yell because when a tragedy strikes like that, it hurts far too much.

With the carnival ones we've also seen ones where there are a bunch of tiny bowls (like think the size of a deli cup) with Betta in them, and kids have to literally throw stuff at them similar to a ring toss, and if they land it in one off the bowls they get to take it and the fish. It's absolutely horrible

The one with the cats baffles me. What did they THINK was going to happen, and what did they THINK that cat was going to do when it grabbed the hamster?

one thing that always bothered me was how normal people on the internet made it to kill your hamster in gruesome and bizarre ways. like i see jokes about it all the time does it not concern anyone else ??

Just wanted to thank you so much for speaking up for animals, especially smaller ones like rodents, fish and birds. There is just so much misinformation about them around and people think they are less worthy just cause they're smaller and don't show affection the way a dog or a cat would. I got 2 gerbils about 2 months ago and they are the cutest lil things ever, I love them so much and I wanted to show pictures of them to my classmates and one of them said that ALL rodents carry diseases and that he would kill them, it just hurts so much that no one tried to talk to him or make him understand how wrong that is other than me, even just joking about it is wrong cause it's normalising that sick and disgusting mindset. You truly are a role model and honestly you inspired me and probably a lot more people to do research on animals even just for the fun of it. Keep up the good work! 💖
