Yuna Kim's Incredible Figure Skating Performance - Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympics

Korea's Kim Yu-Na made history at the Vancouver Games, setting a new world record points total in the women's figure skating thanks to an exquisite free skate that will live long in the memory of all those who watched it.
"I don't know why I cried. This is the first time," the new Olympic figure skating champion Kim Yu-Na told reporters after stepping off the rink. But everyone present at Vancouver's Pacific Coliseum Arena understood why, after witnessing one of the greatest performances and most inspirational evenings in Olympic Winter Games history.
The 19-year-old Korean, dancing to Gershwin's Concerto in G, delivered a mesmerising show of elegance and athleticism. She landed an opening triple lutz-triple toe combination, followed by a perfect triple flip and double axel-double toe-double loop, but just as dazzling as her huge jumps were the breathtaking grace, precision and artistry of the performance.
It earned her a colossal 150.06 points in her free programme, for a world record score of 228.56. Kim's artistry was so exceptional that Japan's Mao Asada was more than 23 points behind in second despite landing two triple Axels.
"She didn't miss a step," said Kim's Canadian coach Brian Orser, himself a former Olympic medallist. "She was skating with her heart. I just wanted her to have an Olympic moment. I wanted it to be Olympic and not cautious, not hold back, just go out and embrace the space, and the Olympic Games."
The bronze medal was won by Canada's Joannie Rochette, who, following her courageous skate in the short programme, had the strength to turn in another remarkable performance just four days after the death of her mother, earning standing ovations from the crowd both before and after her skate. After she had finished, the 24-year-old from Quebec put her hands together and blew a kiss towards the skies.
"I feel proud and the result did not matter. It was a lifetime project for me and my mom, and we achieved that," she said, adding: "She was always proud of me. She was my biggest fan, my best friend. She was with me every step of the way."
Small wonder that on such an emotionally-charged night, the once-impassive Kim should be moved to tears.
"Three times," answered Kim, asked how many times she had cried since winning the gold. "After my performance was over and then on the podium. [Joannie Rochette] started crying, and I started crying right with her."

I think Mao Asada has proven and redeemed herself this week after the 2014 World Champions though. Mao has beaten Yuna's SP World Record by .16. Yuna's was 78.50 in Vancouver. Mao just got 78.66. A strong comeback after her horrid SP in Sochi. :] Though I am more of a Kim Yuna fan, please don't discredit Mao Asada.

Sumin Yook ok come on now. give credit where credit is due. mao had a great, emotional performance... her triple axel was clean...she's definitely a skater that always had the potential but not always the mental strength to skate well. but she at the WC. so, it was in japan, doesn't mean there was homecooking. now sochi on the other hand... a different story.

Just because Mao had a great emotional performance means she should be given a medal? or the world record? No, I don't think so. Yuna also had a very emotional performance too in Sochi. Her last Adios performance is the saddest performance for me as it became to be the bittersweet and emotional performance that would ingrain in my memory. BTW, Mao's triple axel was not clean as it was UR

@@dakweenlyrics409 She lost to a Russian teenager (Adelina Sotnikova) in Sochi, Sotnikova's routines had stumbles, inferior technique, pre-rotations and other mistakes. Yuna had a very clean and difficult program but still lost due to the judges inflating Sotnikova's scores

Could we see another skater who does not miss the podium in entire his/her career including junior years? This is the great achievement that Yuna made. Some people might argue about her high scores, but I bet every single person who watches her performance would admit that she is the number one. She is a true challenger and champion. I really respect her. She ranked 5th in all time female athlete who donated most money and is only one amateur athlete in that rank. She is a great human being.

I just wish I can see her exquisite and memorable performance again at Sochi where we will see her last one in the competition. Since her debut, it's been a great pleasure to see this technically superb and artistically deep touching skating. Score s or the podium are just annexes to such a great pleasure. I guess all the figure skating fans share that feeling. But....still....It's sad.

Dear Olympics, why don't you upload the full version of ladies figure skating like you did with the men's and pairs. Please upload it, for me Vancouver 2010 is the best figure skating event in general. There was so many big names (mao asada, joannie, mirai, miki ando etc) and talents, and no "homecooking". I enjoy watching that event very much. So please kindly upload that, cause I'm sure everyone wants that too
