Yupari, as I am feeling really new to learning to paint portraits, and I really love that you have simplified your pallet to the Zorn pallet. This is another wonderful teaching video. I really appreciate you breaking the steps down to only steps, and explaining a demonstrating each step. I have followed some other artists who are also teaching portrait painting, but, the notes and sketches that I was making, and trying to write down as much information, so I could try to follow it in my own paintings. I just became more and more confused. I can follow your teachings, with very little effort. Thank you so much. I am very happy to financially support your Patreon channel, and appreciate every one of your teaching videos, thank you, MSG Leum MSG Leum

Thanks for this , I have been going around in circles trying to learn how to start a portrait. I have brought more and more paints and ended up throwing my last effort out .THEN..I found your fantastic video. 1. You speak slowly and you repeat the stages which really helped me take it into my memory. 2. The limited palette is genius. Just keeping it simple lessens the confusion. I feel enthusiasm to start again. Thanks heaps.

I’ve been enjoying your wonderful painting and drawing lessons. You are so clear. I can’t figure out how you can spend so much time teaching and helping others. I love being able to just sit in on your tutorials and see what you come up with next. I’m an older artist, been painting for years and I still learn something new from you. Thanks.

The black takes the place of blue in this palette and when you mix ivory black with yellow you get a kind of olive green colour. It is still remarkable what can be achieved with this palette.

Excellent lesson, portrait painting required a lot of patient , peaceful time. It is difficult to mix these tones of flash. I hope to improve it with your tutorials. THANK YOU !

It is borderline mindblowing what one can achieve with a palette that is: 1. extremely limited; 2. too warm (at least in theory). Only after you start playing with it do you realize how effective it is.

So I learn to simplify the shadows .....almost like correcting the lighting of the photo. I got on to see how you handled the 5 o’clock shadow. Learned more! Going back to my painting redefine the dark light and mid tone and cast less complicated shadows. What’s with the teachers who say all a primal you touch the paint as little as possible? What really happens when you scrub and touch it a lot? Was that a copper hand pallet? Was it coated with a preservative of some kind?

Thank you for your videos ! when I paint a portrait I always have to start from the eyes - no matter how much I try, I can't start like you, because drawing the general proportions without really measuring with a ruler is very hard for me as a beginner. what could help me in your opinion succeed drawing the beginning like you ? thank you so much.

I don't like this lesson. In fact, I do not find it to be a painting at all, but more of a very hesitant illustration. In my book, a mark of an amateur is when the "artist" jumps so quickly into their instant gratification of daubing in those little flecks of white in the eyes to suggest reflections. I could list many other examples but it gets tiring to write, as well as to read, complaints.
