As a professional concert violist, to me, this is THE finest interpretation of this work. I have listened and studied others. However, I find this version convincing and excitingly alive! TRUE VIRTUOSIC PERFORMANCE! It didn't put me to sleep and I agreed with the audience - I wanted more.

Yuri's playing often make me chill and feel anxiety. Maybe this is why the piece and his style perfectly matches here 👍

100% agreed! What a great interpretation and performance! There was a similarly good(exciting and thrilling) performance live by him and Collin Davis and Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra also in early '80s which i heard on radio; have it recorded on a cassette tape and still keep it today...Microphone is not so near to the viola as this and has more of the hall tone, and accompaniment has more resonance (Great Hercules Saal!). As is always with Sir Collin, there is a touch of grace added...pity that it could be seen/heard nowhere... (lucky me , hehehe)

Even bashmet can’t play this intune.

There was a time in the 80s and early 90s when Yuri Bashmet was unmatched among solo violists, and this recording shows that, extraordinary performance. And yes, although the work is 'realised' by Serly, it is still Bartok's final swansong and deserves to be heard even if he did not complete it.

This is the standard completion by Tibor Serly who orchestrated Bartok's 13 pages of continuous short score draft which contains few but significant indications of the intended orchestration.

Sritcly speaking, this concerto caanot be concidered as a work by Bela Bartok. He died leaving only sketches, which were ordred and completed by his puul Serly. Anyhaw, it is a very beautiful work.

Gérard Begni But I think that the viola part was entirelly written by Bartók. The orchestration, however, was not written by him
@maikebrummer61823 жыл бұрын
Actually no. The viola part was also not completed. Some pieces were even written in f-clef, so they tried a version for cello too. It was really little what Bartok gave to the afterworld

Ce concert est véritablement un incunable , car on y voit Bashmet jouer avec un orchestre russe et sans partition , cet ingrat concerto de Bartok pour alto ; il n'y a guère que Tabéa Zimmermann pour l'égaler .
