It's fate was sealed the moment Studio Mappa took on Attack On Titan.

This hurts soo much. We all held on a little hope😢 And seeing the English and Japanese voice actors be so sad about this shows the major impact this anime has had like I never seen a show bring together two communities like anime fans and irl ice skaters.

Mappa discarded something made with genuine love and passion that wasn’t guaranteed to be popular, yet found a way to touch many people’s hearts . Sadly, Mappa doesn’t care about love. They take advantage of the animator's passion for wanting to create at the cost of their health & lives. They have no respect for the women & staff that helped make such a wonderful show. No respect for the fans & figure skaters that loved the show. Yuri on ice made history, but Mappa wants to erase its own history.

I'm with you and everyone else in this discontent. It was through Kictor's channel that I saw the announcement. I cried a little during her take and then went straight to bawling my eyes out when watching the two trailers, since both are painful reminders of what we might never see made a reality. Talk about holding on to what little hope was left only to have that small bit of hope completely crushed, after almost 7 years. "Yuri on Ice" was, and still is, my favorite anime that came out within the last 10 years. When I started watching the series, I honestly didn't expect it to make such an impact to the point that actual figure skaters would become invested in the anime. I also didn't expect it to become so popular with just 12 episodes. I wasn't even finished with the series when I started seeking out fan fiction! YoI was what introduced me to Mappa in the first place, ironically! And for the higher ups in Mappa to do YoI so dirty like this, they did us, the fans, dirty. Like you said, they got us all so invested with anticipation for the movie, for YEARS(!), only to drop this announcement so carelessly with their BS that they weren't able to "meet expectations" like, be for effing real.

Damn I feel really bad for yall Yuri on ice fans. You fans got done so dirty. Like at least dont wait this long to cancel something and give the property away to some other studio. Before the traction for the show dies down. If this decision was made back in 2017 ish, YOI would have a great chance to get a season 2 by another studio But like come on FR, not saying anything for years and then cancel it in 2024 It´s a slap in the face to the fans and the possibility to make a season 2

6 years of patience, hoping for this movie and nothing. It's so disrespectful to the fans, the staff and everything it's build. It's disrespectful to the studio itself that got popular ON THIS SHOW
@evapunk5226 ай бұрын
Tbh, if they had actually done this movie ages ago when Yuri On Ice was popular, they probably wouldn't have had such a problem because it would have made money. And I bet this is why they aren't doing it, they think it won't make enough money. It's still kinda bullshit tho because people still love it, maybe not as much as before, but I still was hoping for something. I really hope they sell it because damn...someone else would make it and make it well!

If Kyoto Animation took over it would be perfect... they did great with Tsurune, which is a show about Kyudo (Japanese archery) with BL vibes lol

THAT'S WHAT I'M SAYING! They knew full and GD well that they weren't doing anything with it. Why string us all along all this time? Also yes! Maybe it's not going to be as profitable as another title that they have more ownership of, but this is about legacy and the history of their own company. If money is so important, then maybe don't release a movie or a full second season; the least they could do to keep good faith with their original audience, after teasing a release of their own free will, is like an ova. How are you going to disrespect the series that let you become what you are? Like even with car companies that expand their lines, they still hold on to their breakout models (ie: the camry has been around for ages and will probably out live me). They really just took a series that put them on the map, and rather than conclude it respectfully, just dragged it out to fizzle out unceremoniously. Sorry, I too am in my feelings 😅

I hate mappa so much for this. This anime was my favourite and I was sad then when there isn't going to be a second season but just a movie but still happy that we got that one. Waited 7 years and what, they just cancel it!! I don't think I will ever watch anything mappa made from this point on. Even if there were enough reasons for it first they didn't explain any of those reason, second why what this long for cancellation then... I'm so angry and feel betrayed. This anime made me restart figure skating after 10 years and mappa destroyed me with this news.

MAPPA fumbled so hard, I'm so upset.. why would you let the people wait with baited breath to just come out like "We're cancelling, my bad." I genuinely want nothing do with MAPPA this day forward..As a fellow artist and hearing this? It hurts..we don't get respected and it shows.

Remember when Mappa created anime for the pure enjoyment of the BL community? Pepperidge Farms remembers, but Mappa is too busy treating their animators like slaves to care about Pepperidge Farms.

your not the only one, as seen how the internet reacts. im also very sad and angry. it happens with alot of anime, lets be real here. But this anime has a special place in my heart. i stil watch it often. The fact that they promised something and then just years later say, nope not happening. we lied to all of you. it breaks my heart. and i really really really hope they will give the rights to someone else who does care and make the best boys shine, shine even more then they already did! hmpfs, stupid mappa

Life happens, man. Don't let it get you down. (About keeping up with series; not this.) I don't get what the point of making an official 'never happening' announcement was for them. I mean, people hope that anime will get more seasons but anyone who's been watching it for more than ten seconds knows that's not always how it works. Anime is to manga what 80s cartoon shows were to their respective toylines. Stings to say that, but it's generally a fact. Total hummer, though. Yuri On Ice has a special place in my heart as it was both my first sports anime and my fotdy BL. It's the kinda show where I did always hope there could be the possibiliyt of more, y'know?

Chainsaw man is so good but Yuri on ice was essentially one of their early flag ship series and seeing it be treated like this is so upsetting. Reminds me of when warner brothers pulled something similar a few years ago by chopping projects people were looking forward to seeing.

Finally somebody who’s expressing the proper momentum on this. So many people have discussed how horribly MAPPA treats their animators, but I’ve never, NEVER heard anybody who actually spoke out on how they straight up do stuff like this and let not only the fans, but the entire team working on Yuri! On Ice down. It’s so clear that the animators, the team members, AND the fans wanted this to continue, and it even had the proper momentum to. This is straight up not right. So many people would have wanted this anime to continue because it’s a good (scratch that, a great) BL and gave me goosebumps when watching it. As somebody who watched it when it first came out, I was more than excited to hear when season 2 was going to come out. This is just absolutely a horrible thing to do to anybody. Especially with no warning beforehand.

This isn’t a problem just with mappa it’s the whole anime and manga industry in general, they have manga artists dieing and get permanent injuries from the work pressure/demand and they don’t care, also these two situations just prove it more those being the act age author and the rurouni kenshin author both being caught doing p’s(being into children) crime but only one got fired and the other is still working on his new manga because he make a lot more money.
