Thank you for how you simplify the process to better understand what we should do and the practice drills to do it.

Thanks for keep hammering home the basics of Surfski paddling Oscar. I have been sea kayaking all my life and Surfski paddling for the last 10 years. Forever the student as there is always more to learn. I have had a few out with me that struggle to put it all together. We will spend time drilling aspects of the stoke.

Thank you for this response. I've always had a bracing confusion with a feathered paddle but percevered because others insisted it was better.. After watching this more than a year ago, I've been using zero feathering and am much improved. I hope Oscar is out of hospital and on the mend..

Yury or anyone else ….. where do you find those surfski stands that you can sit in and practice your drills? Would be great to have in the garage.

Optimum feathering ? Paddle length?
@petawillingale5 жыл бұрын
Your feather angle will be personal preference, I paddle with a 45 , some friends with 0 others with 70! Longer the length slower the cadence ! But again that will depend on your body type and fitness ! Only my opinion mind! Hope that helps.

Oscar recommends 0 feathering so you can equally brace on either side. He also recommends a adjustable length paddle so you can change based upon the conditions and your level of fatigue.

I've taken this zero feather advice and love it. I was battling with 30degree specially in gale force situations.. Now I'm stable.

With the leg drill , does the recommended technique mean that you use your hamstrings more than your quads ? Thanks

I don't think so, but you are better off asking Oscar. I am just a guy who posted this video.

This works well with a greenland paddle in a surfski.

Can anyone tell me where on your foot you apply pressure when pumping / using leg drive? The leg drive techniques I use in outrigger and dragon boat paddling affect the rudder pedals too much in the surf ski.
@SpaceSputnik4 жыл бұрын
You apply pressure through the heels.

Thanks, is that something Oscar said?

@@arcticwanderer2000 This seems to be the general consensus. I don't remember if Oscar said these exact words though.

@@arcticwanderer2000 heels. Takes practice but you'll get to the point you never touch the pedals inadvertently.
