Around 26 years old, people usually consider retirement. Especially, he won 14th place in 2010 Vancouver Olympics, 4th place in 2014 Sochi Olympics, and bronze medal in 2018 Pyeongchang Olympics. Realistically, it is hard to expect a medal at the 2022 Beijing Olympics, so it is natural for him to retire after winning two consecutive world titles, seven straight European championships, and two silver medals at the Grand Prix Final.

Javier and Yuzuru have a beautiful and magical history which took place for almost 10 years, from the beginning until the end, it's very rare to find something like this in figure skating, they were rivals, training partners, friends, incredibly supportive, respectful and sweet to each other, and kept close in all championships, standing almost always on the winning podium together. Brian Orser and his team, their coach, one of the best skating coaches in the world, could tell you a lot of about them. There should be movies about them tbh.
