Que j'aime l'orgue qui me bouleverse toujours autant vu que mon enfance en a été bercée ayant à toutes célébrations surtout la messe de minuit que je trouvais divine!merci pour toutes ces vidéos magnifiques !

Merci de cette vidéo. En septembre 1986, je suis resté à Notre Dame de Paris tout un samedi dimanche près du grand orgue où Yves Devernay jouait - je ne l'ai entendu qu'à cette occasion puis à Lyon un mois plus tard-. Je retrouve là de façon intacte, 30 ans plus tard, l'ambiance et les émotions ressenties. Ca me touche beaucoup et me fait un grand plaisir. Merci encore.

Interesting use of the Regal Chamade 2/16' at 6:25. I have seen the new stoplist since the 2012-2014 work and it appears they have now changed this rank to simply Regal 8'. What for? I have also closely looked at pictures of the facade of the organ, and the tiny, thin regal pipes appear to have been altered and have smaller openings. Curious if someone knows anything about this.

Notre Dame organ at this time was in very sad shape. It had to be hand registered because the combination action failed and did not work so the only thing that work was the crescendo pedal, couplers and tutti button. Yves Devernay and his assistant jean Fröhlich were still able to work magic and come up with many brilliant improvisations.

His tempo was too often too instable - not really under control, like stumbling or falling forward.

I do not mean the true rubati. Sorry, but for example the tempo change during the first theme of the first fugue does not make sense to me.

Devernay must have been drunk most of the time. I'm sure if he tried, he could play in tempo, so I think he just didn't care. The semiquaver man ain't got no time for minims! One can even argue that being "subjectively" in tempo is actually more important than being measurably in tempo. In a similar way, what appears optically straight in a picture may not be actually straight, and vice versa.

Couperin le Grand he definitely strikes me as an immensely talented musician who didn't exactly "try" all of the time. However, his performance of Dupre's Varations sur in vieux Noel, which can be found here on KZbin, is just out of this world in almost every way.

I have to agree. And it was recorded at too high a volume. Sound engineer's problem, not the organists. Too bad.
