Moonshine and Lemongrass

Our next destination in Tunisia is the town of Sfax. Not a very touristy place and therefore maybe more interesting, I am not sure. But I have lots of hopes as I like to find lots of foods and place of normality instead of resort. But let´s see. The journey we took was a longer one this time and we still have the train journey from last time from Hammamet to Sousse in mind. Everybody said it was exceptional that there were so many people in the train - will this be a very different journey? Let´s check it out.

@yvesthesleeve basicly it means a Miller, but it evolved to have another meaning for someone who spy on people and make reports to the police. Tunis is a police state after all.

Please don't go to the mall - it is a new western american style mall you could find in any country and is a sellout to Sfax culture. Go to the lighthouse and ruins of Thyna. The medina of Sfax is a real working old town and not touristy like Sousse, Hammamet, Tunis, etc. Go to Kerkennah to eat fish and go out on a fishing boat. You can pay any fisherman to take you out for an agreed upon price.

@@yvesthesleeve It is true that the closer I descended, the closer I got to the desert But the island of Djerba is not very hot because the sea revolves around it. It is a large island and is considered number 3 in tourism in Tunisia. This island is inhabited by Tunisians, but their religion is Jewish and it is an island of religious tolerance. It contains the second oldest Jewish church

@Hn-xu1cd the island of Djerba is inhabited by mostly Muslims, the Jewish community lives in the capital of the island "Houmt Souk", they live in 2 neighborhoods on the outskirts of this small city , "hara lekbira" and "hara sghira", the christians on the island are older westeners who live there with their back home pensions, but most of the inhabitants in Djerba are Muslims, the island probably has like 200 000 inhabitants , the Jewish community represents between 5000 and 8000 in the island, although numbers are conflicting and no real census has been done for a decade or two.

@yvesthesleeve that's why most people who can afford a car get one, yes public transportation is not that great due to economical problems, the country has a lot of foreign debts(mostly to buy wheat, petroleum and other products in euros and dollars) to western countries and others and that hinders our own development and maintenance of the transportation and many other aspects, Tunisia in the 90s was way cleaner than these days, also the 2011 revolution and the democratic process added to these factors which made the situation very complicated, it will take some time to put things in the right order and some good heart from those countries that keep us indebted to foreign currency especially the US dollar and the Euro....

Sfax second biggest city in Tunisia, industrial city, biggest port with biggest fishing boats (especially for that expensive Tuna), also people in Sfax are more conservative and education is very important to many of its inhabitants (you will be pointed by the finger in your own family if you're not successful at school), higher standard, also it is the city where they master Tunisian sweets. Oh and biggest fields of olives and olive oil production.

@@yvesthesleeve I know, I love your videos and your vibe as a dad always trying to include your kids in the vibe, sometimes they do and sometimes they just being kids 💖😊 I was suggesting this to you, as the difference in price is really not huge and if they have still seats available, you would have a seat from start to end with AC all along.
