i've seen quite a lot of footage of her as a teacher - she seems very focused and kind - an ideal teacher

Rudi's gesture at the end! And there is no leaning on his back from this Giselle.

Sweet and innocent Giselle.

+Sima Raft yep, and as i said to someone else here, believable in Act 1 - she plays out the flower petal scene quite quickly which for me is realistic - makes some other ballerinas as though they are playing the scene in slow motion under water - though this can be seen as Romantic style.

John Hall I like it that different Giselles have different temperaments. Just can't stand the precious ones!
@JohnRaymondHall8 жыл бұрын
+Sima Raft me too - not keen on the simpering fey ones - Romantic style goes so far before it become mawkish.

So many giants, so little film footage.

nowadays so much more is filmed - and live footage in the theatre with mobile phones - but yes, so many performances just evaporated like the morning mist

+pediatrapaola i saw Cyril Atanassoff once too - at the Palais Garnier but for the life of me can't remember in what of with whom! so i may well have not seen him at all! it would have been between 1970 and 1975 - again we were going round ballet-watching at the same time!

A comment says at 3'08 Wilfried Piollet is Mytha , there is a French video TV of complete Giselle ballet in 1979 with Pontois-Baryschnikov and Piollet in Mytha , it's seems difficult to see this Giselle video because " Droits d'Auteurs " . It's Pity with Chanel Cyrcatfran that this version was only some days on KZbin and very bad video too speed video very bad video : a shame !

It's hard to be sure but I believe the brief glimpse of Myrtha is Wilfride Piollet at 3:08.
@JohnRaymondHall7 жыл бұрын
actually it looks like Wilfride Piollet - i can't find any record of her dancing Myrtha yet but i'll keep looking. well spotted!
@alanjones15237 жыл бұрын
She danced Myrtha! I know she danced it in the version with Carzou designs, at least.

And PS right now the Opéra is slowly dismantling a display of Chauviré's costumes lent by her daughter. The two for Giselle gave me shivers when I saw them from afar. They are both different from the ones in your video though, the Act I has an unconvincing flounce on the bottom, Act II is very simple, very beautiful. Congratulations on your Kozlov find, I want to take a new look at that...
