If Serena is really in survival mode all the time, she could have accepted the asylum offer when she was sent back to Canada on the same flight with Tuello. It was so itchy to watch that scene she should have realized the situation and grab the best out of all possibilities. The writer knows the viewers so well. They are willing to see Serena suffers
