Ok. I want this to be one of my signature techniques.

What’s the difference between O-guruma and Ashi-guruma?

O-guruma: your leg goes above your opponent's knee Ashi-guruma: It's below the knee, like close to the other person's anckle

O Guruma is above the knee and Ashi guruma is below it, harai goshi is essentially an o goshi but you use your leg to give the extra kick over.

No. Just classically. Sorry for the late response.

Is there a version of this ashi guruma where the tori also sweeps out the leg instead of just pulling uke over the leg if so what is it called?

You may be envisioning Harai Goshi. They look very close visually

You may need to "sweep" in some cases if uke resists well. It will happen by itself

ashi-guruma: uke’s leg is blocked by tori’s foot (ashi = foot). o-guruma: uke’s leg is swiped by tori’s leg (o = wide, large)

May I ask why tori release his grip from the lapel? This happens in this video and in most of this Kodokan video series. The kake is somewhat deficient in the final arm action, because there is a lack of control and capacity to transfer force during this final phase. It would be good if Kodokan could solve this question since his criterion is the reference to be followed in the basic or ideal model of the technique (Kyu and Dan exams). Best regards.

He releases the lapel after the uke is thrown in order to secure the sleeve hold. My guess would be self defense emphasis. This sets up for armbars. My friend who cross-trains in BJJ prefers armbars over hold downs.

@@jsagers2008 I was gonna say the same thing. That focusing on controlling the arm is better for self defense / transitioning to submission attacks.

I see you comment this on several videos. Please refer to Nage-no-Kata for how kake should be executed for standing techniques. If you keep your lapel grip all the way, there is a high chance that you lose your own balance and fall over uke. That's entirely fine for all I care, but the point made by the Kodokan is that you should still be standing in perfect balance once you have thrown uke. Tori standing with uke on the ground is the ideal finish for an ippon technique. Also, this is a good setup for a direct juji-gatame, which will instead take more time if you start by bending over or falling over uke.

Probably not to be a douche and let Uke breakfall properly. Also this hold can lead into a Juji gatame, if the match goes to the ground.
@alexandrehuat773 Жыл бұрын
The lapel grip becomes a double arm grip. This allows for better control for further techniques, and it allows to not lose balance.
