Many of the ancient structures have been preserved. The whole of the Indian sub-continent was ruled from here. Amazing city.

There is no comparison. Mughals did not ruled delhi more than 200 years (Babar/Humayan for few years and Akbar - Aurungzeb only) . Delhi is mentioned in Mahabharta (7000+ years ago) as IndraPrastha., Rawalpindi is almost as old as Delhi but Islamabad is not. Maurya-Gupta ruled Delhi for almost 1000+ years. British only from 1857 - 1947 (90 years).
