I have been using the Meike 11mm and 18mm extension tubes with my Z7 and 24-70 f2.8 S and the 70-200 f2.8 S. It works with Focus Shift Shooting, even with the time interval set to 00, to shoot focus stacks. This makes possible shooting focus stacks in conditions where there is some (intermittent) wind. It will shoot a stack if you get a little calm -the Z7 will shoot about 3 frames a second like this. Using the 70-200, use the tripod collar, as the weight of that lens puts too much stress on the tubes if the camera is mounted on the tripod. The tubes flex enough that electronic contact is not sure, and the camera may stop shooting in mid-stack. The other caveat is that you must check for focus to the distance you want before you start the stack. If the lens reaches its infinity limit, the camera stops shooting there. This distance may be nearer than you would think. Personally, I use the 70-200 almost all the time for this, usually between 70mm and 135mm. It’s a great system for focus stacking.

great idea Becky, to shoot the 50 mm f1.2 as a macro; but maybe use the "focus stacking" feature, or do one yourself, with a rail; this would give Total sharpness to the image, but Beautiful Bokeh on the flower petal :-) :-) ; this has realy justified the existance of these lenses, and makes one wonder just how good the $AUD 10,000 58mm f 0.95 lens realy is, and what the bokeh on this is. be worth a comparison video, ie: of the 50 mm lenses, to show what bokeh / sharpness you get for the money.

Never used these before, thanks very interesting. If I used these on a true 1:1, 105 micro nikkor could I actually get magnification (2x possibly) and then use focus stacking to get greater depth of field?

Got the JJC version some time ago. As you suggest - not an ideal solution but seems a good stop gap. Thanks for all the helpful info. Fergus Buchanan

It is good to know you can get extension tubes for the nikon Z lenses as I have used the pk-13 recently with a 200mm F4 AIS lens recently and was happy with the results , I have yet to try it with the 180mm 2.8 , extension tubes are more compact to carry than a extra macro lens , another great informative video !

one other great use for this is that, in 2022 ( both the 50 and 105 MC macro lenses are released at this stage); the 105 is very hard to use hand-held( for the Z series!!- the AF 105 {for the D750/700/850/610} IS hand holdable, as a portrait lens), but your use of these tubes hand held lead to very sharp and usable images.

Nice to see more and more Z specific products coming out, Becky. On the subject of macro and tubes, have you heard of another specialty product from Helicon Focus? It’s their FB Tube for adding automated focus bracketing for cameras that do not have it as a built in feature. I’m thinking of getting one to use with my D300S.

Does the focus stacking feature on the Z 6 & 7 cameras work with these extension tubes, especially the “peaking stack image” feature that is normally only available with Z-lenses attached?

I use my Photodiox Pro that was made for the Z system. I have the 15mm paired with the 50mm 1.8 for most of my work up close- but I purchased the Laowa 100mm f2.8 2X also. Between the two they work for me but I am dying to get my hands on the Nikon Z 105mm when it is ready.

I now have these extension tubes and can confirm that THEY WORK with wide angle lenses! I use the 10mm extension tube on my Nikon Z 14-24 f2.8 and can shoot at 14mm. So this woman is lying when she says it doesn't work.

Hi, is anybody try extension tubes on Nikkor MC 105/2.8 ? Is macro, but why not go to for 2x magnification, like some other lenses on market.

Switch for the 10mm and use it on the wide angle.

To calculate your magnification factor, divide the extension thickness by the focal length of the lens. Thus 10mm extension will give you 1/5 life size on a 50 mm lens. Am I correct?

Would this work with the Z-50 and the 16-50mm kit lens?
@graysofwestminster
@graysofwestminster 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Vivek! It does work on a 16-50mm with the Z 50 although it did take a bit of jiggling to get the extension tube to click onto the lens - the longer extension works better of the two - the shorter 10mm extension isn't great!

@@graysofwestminster Okay one more question, if the image quality from a 1:1 macro lens, say a Z50+ftz+40mm Nikkor micro is 10, what score would be the image quality using Z50+extension+16-50? Thanks in advance!
