22. 袋田の滝（日本の滝百選）
茨城県大子町に存在します。日本の滝百選に選ばれており、日本三名瀑の1つとされています。
約1500万年前の火山角礫岩層の大きな節理・断層に沿って川が流れ落ち、西方の凝灰質砂岩層等を浸食することにより形成されました。
袋田の滝は、四段から成り、「四度の滝」の別称を持ちます。この別称は弘法大師空海が四度護摩修行を行ったことに由来すると伝わります。
It is located in Daigo Town, Ibaraki Prefecture. It is one of the top 100 waterfalls in Japan, and one of the “Three Famous Waterfalls in Japan”.
It was formed about 15 million years ago when the river flowed down along the large joints and faults of the volcanic conglomerate layer and eroded the tuffaceous sandstone layer in the west.
Fukuroda Falls consists of four tiers, and is also known as the "Fourfold Waterfall. This name is said to have originated from the fact that Kobo-Daishi Kukai performed homa-mandala four times.
