I just got a pair of LCD-3's off ebay for $1600 USD from some random dude in LA.. Site unseen. Took a gamble. Arrived no issues. They cost $3000+ here in Australia and there is no way I could afford that. I still have the EL-8's which i thought were pretty special. I still do think they are special. I spent the first week with the LCD-3's thinking, yep these are pretty amazing. Clarity and detail is just on a different level to anything i have heard before. Then I went back to the EL-8's for a while, and they still felt pretty special. I then umm'ed and arr'ed about selling the LCD-3's as i would likely make a bit of a profit here locally, so I went back to the LCD-3's for a few days and I can now definitely say that I wont be selling the LCD-3's. I think if you get used to a particular sound, it becomes the norm. Go back to anything else (and I mean anything) and you realise just how much better this high-end stuff is than anything else. Every time I listen to them now I am just stunned by how good they are. Seriously, the government should hand out free LCD's to everyone - its a national tragedy that we subject people to any other headphone.

not really, audio world is notoriously priced based on hype, when $50 SHP9500 sounding the same as $200 headphone and $300 M1060 sounding the same as $1500 headphone you know something is wrong. a $1200 gaming PC will beat a $500 gaming PC no contest. a $2000 TV will get you 70 inches a $200 TV will only give you around 40 inches, there is a big difference from 70 to 40
@LS-oh8kv7 жыл бұрын
Chi Zhang What $200 does the SHP9500 beat? Must not be a very good headphone. And the M1060's aren't bad but what $1500 headphone are you talking about? Golden beats or something? A pair of HD800S's will beat almost anything outside of Stax, (#StaxBro) which are their own sort of market with their special amps and such and lack of comfort but the sound on them is unbelievable. If you compare a good value headphone to a bad value headphone you'll always be disappointed. Just like getting a $2000 computer monitor that's 8k but only 32 inches vs a 32 inch 4k monitor at around $400. At only 32 inches the difference in resolution going to 8k is going to be minimal, if even noticeable. You have to compare the best values at their price range to the best values in their price range, like comparing LCD-X's at $1700 to HD650's at only $200 (massdrop price when it dropped). Sure the HD650's at that price point are excellent and beat out pretty much everything at that price point, but the LCD-X's make people speechless. (as z showed) Go listen to a pair of Stax or the LCD-X's before you saying its all priced on hype. Just cause there are some bad values doesn't mean all are.
@amartinez976 жыл бұрын
@Chi Zhang you are completely wrong the M1060's dont sound any better and arguably sound slightly worst than the Isine 20's (with the right EQ tweak) which cost around 500, and even those dont sound as good as the LCD-2, X basically the whole LCD line under 1500.

I auditioned a pair of LCD-X cans last month at AXPONA (along with dozens of other headphones) and a pair arrived on my front porch 40 hours ago.They have been pumping music into my ears for 35 of those 40 hours. I've hardly eaten any food, taken fewer bathroom breaks, had very little sleep, and just don't want to take these headphones off. Just freaking incredible sound. Absolutely no buyers remorse. I love these things and I'm very, very picky about the sound of Hi-Fi equipment. Everyone who loves music must go audition the LCD-X. On the other hand, if you like the Millennial sound of bloated, muddy bass with recessed mids and rolled off highs, this ain't for you. These give you all the music. I've been listening to Classical, 50s Jazz, Classic Rock, Blues, Perry Como, Frank Sinatra, Led Zeppelin, Dire Straits, contemporary Mark Knopfler, Motown; it all sounds great through these cans. I really need to put these down and get some sleep.

@nib958 жыл бұрын
On the point about why people find it harder to spend so much on headphones than these other technologies or hobbies, I think it's because A.) Diminishing returns are a much bigger thing with audiophile goods. We pay extortionate amounts of money for what are essentially very small differences. Yes the LCD-X's sound incredible, but they certainly don't sound 4.25x better than a pair of Fostex Massdrop TH-X00's, which is exactly how much more expensive they compared to them. We're talking a price difference of $1300, for what is essentially a minute technical improvement. B.) When you buy a fancy new TV, or PC etc, you get objectively, scientifically provable, better performance, with headphones it's actually completely subjective. For example, I own a pair of T1's, HD800's, MDR-Z1R's etc, and have gone through or tested a few Audeze cans, and the LCD-2's that I bought and subsequently sold, simply were not for me. I found them too dark, and too congested. Whilst when you buy a high end TV, the black levels, colour accuracy, contrast, graduation, input lag etc, will or should all be objectively better, with headphones the differences might purely be subjectively preferred one's. One person might want a smoother, more warm and bass emphasised can, the other might want something more detailed, airy and articulate. Who's to say which is actually better? C.) Lastly, I find headphones are a slightly more selfish and self centric affair when compared to these other technologies. With a TV, a PC, games console etc, you can share premium experiences with many people at the same time, and over a multitude of different uses or interests too. A whole living room full of people can huddle around a TV, and enjoy anything from a great movie, through to an educational documentary, global sports event, important news etc, all things that are generally far more conducive to social or vocational development than listening to music on a pair of headphones. Likewise with a PC or laptop, where you can browse the internet, run apps, create software, write emails, do your work, view media, or do a multitude of other things that are generally more diverse and can be far more productive, than what a pair of headphones can offer. I should add that as touched on above, I am one of these people who spends a lot of money on audiophile equipment, because the technologies give me a lot of joy and pleasure. That being said, I can totally appreciate why spending so much on audiophile equipment carries so much more of a stigma that some of these other technologies.

It probably is, but what minds said is true- you are buying into a product that has questionable quality/reliability issues. The HD650 is a headphone that is on the top of my try list. I will say that the HD600's were great, especially for $400 CAD. There are other headphones that come pretty close (SHP9500), but quality/reliability is still questionable. If someone came up to me and asked what headphones to buy, I'd say get the 9500's when they're $69 CAD on newegg. Done. If they are into gaming, add a v-moda boompro mic for $35 and you have a $110 gaming headset. If an audiophile came up to me and asked what headphones to buy, it's more complicated. I wouldn't recommend the 9500's, unless if their budget was

@KojiCO-ConvinceM5 жыл бұрын
B. That’s no problem lad, here is my findings and since then I have owned many more headphones and my current setup is in the $8000 range between my DAC and amplifier In my experience the HD 800 S does not perform to its potential like it does with the HTVD 800 and HDVD amplifier from sanitiser themselves. This could be a voltage thing, or a power delivery thing, I don’t know, but the base is definitely far more authoritative on their own amplifier. There is definitely a good 5 to 8% difference that you can be sure of. But going back to the LCDX, The base is definitely more authoritative there 100% it has more of a slam and it’s more heavy but not in a overpowering way,. The only reason I swapped them was the weight otherwise I would’ve kept the LCDX, in my experience setting aside the LCD for the best in their lineup. The HD 800 S has a base but it’s not overstated or understated, it is just enough but I like the impact of the LCDX far more

Z review, love you work and thx for bringing us this awesome video. If anyone is wondering, The LCD-X sound almost identical to the Oppo PM1 to me (Disclaimer: I'm just over 40 and I cannot hear anything above 18Khz on the top end, but my hearing goes down to 20Hz, no problems.). I spent a good 4-5 days listening to and comparing the LCD-2Classic, LCD-X and the Oppo PM1. Between the Oppo and the LCD-X, I could not tell a difference except for the awesome level of comfort of the LCD-X. I prefer the sound of the Oppo and LCD-X over the LCD 2 classic. The LCD2 C sound is 90% the LCD-X. But once you A/B compare them over the same tracks and same equipment and know that it just falls short, you might end up trying to justify the extra spend. On the other hand, if you own the Oppo's, you've done well for yourself, so congratulations :) Not only do they sound identical to the LCD-X's, but they are also infinitely more portable when you compare the size. Thge LCD-X played a bit louder, so may be it's more sensitive.

Really enjoyed the video. I just purchased a new pair of LCD-3's for a "steal" of $1,499 (an order of magnitude more than the HD595s that I've been rocking for years). It was late and I saw the deal and I just jumped. Felt sick the next day, but didn't cancel the order and decided to just see how I liked them since I could send them back if they weren't for me. I've only had them here with me for two days, but I've spent those two days just listening to music when I have the free time and for hours on end. There's something that I can't quite put my finger on with the LCD-3's, but I haven't heard anything else like them. They just sound amazing with everything that I've thrown at them. In other open backs that I've had it seems like I've been compromising on area for another, rich mids mean I'll lose some of the top end, a nice wide soundstage means I'll lose some of the impact on the low end and a lot of dynamics seem to have issues with top-end harshness which makes long listening sessions almost painful after a while. And I've yet to find a closed back set of headphones that don't make me feel like I'm listening in a closet, though I haven't tried many. None of that seems to be an issue with the LCD-3, the bass roars, the mids a rich and smooth and the top-end extremely detailed but not harsh in the least. It's like I'm hearing the music the only way it was meant to be heard. They may be coloring things a bit, but it's in a manner that is incredibly enjoyable. It's a lot of money, but at this point, I'm not sure I can go back to my other headphones. I'm going to be hanging onto them, I just hope that I don't break them.

Ha! Great review. Love your channel. Heard these a few months back and then looked at bank balance and realized i could only barely afford the EL-8's. Which I did, and I love, but once you hear these everything is second best. Maybe one day when I am really drunk i'll buy these online with my credit-card.

I use hd650s at home and I had a chance of listening to lcd-x in a local headphone shop and compared them to hd650 on cma400i. These were great and the weight didn’t bother me as much. They were different and I thought the bass were better but I couldn’t justify spending additional 1300 for the improvement. Guess my ears aren’t sensitive enough to discern the improvements.
@DMN39019 жыл бұрын
Sell some shit for them. You must have at least $500-1000 worth of gear that you don't use. Tell yourself that over and over again and you'll eventually believe it and sell said shit. Use your tax return. Get them used. Done. You'll never be in a situation to buy anything better than the LCD X, so get rid of the lcd4 thoughts. It'll never happen. Treat it like a ferrari/lambo. It'll never happen. If you somehow buy them, you'll hate wearing them because you're scared to wear them. If you fingered your cat accidentally and got a poop particle.... My HD800's are the all I ever need, but I'll still cheat eventually and get something else if I have a bunch of cash lying around, but you know what...fuck it. Why would I? Revolving thought process.
@amanieux8 жыл бұрын
when you say "it is beyond speakers" do you still mean it now that you have cooled down after a good night sleep ? :) maybe $1700 is crazy because of the law of diminishing return meaning that there must other headphone(s) at half the price that are 90% as good as these headphones, is it correct ? or are these headphones the exception to the law of diminishing return ?
@ZReviews8 жыл бұрын
+amanieux Maybe to everything. I haven't heard the speakers in the POSITION to compete with these yet. It would have to be some sort of multi speaker setup. That is all I can say.

I bought LCDx along with Audeze Deckard.The LCDx is very good but Audeze Deckard sucks camel's ass.I should have gone with Woo audio WA7.There are no dealers in India for Woo Audio.So I decided to go with Deckard.Honestly dude,I am not getting the expected sound quality,maybe because of bad combo.If you are on Headfi,I can send you some pictures of my rig just to make you believe that I own LCDx and Deckard.Because opinions matter a lot when people really own something.

@raphaelleite49317 жыл бұрын
I recently sat down and listened to the whole line up and bought the LCD2... heres why. LCD3 is the same as the LCD2 i can't tell a difference, if its there you have to squint to hear it. The LCDx loses everything that makes the LCD2/3 magical. They don't ooze liquid honey textured bass. They are great though, but so are the new HD800S if you want analytical with far better sound stage, same price and much lighter and more comfortable. When you're talking about this high up in the quality spectrum they are all good but Im all about the LCD2 with fazor.
