Open headphones are generally better for mixing and mastering. Closed hp's are more common in studios because of tracking, mic-placement etc. - all you hear is the sound from the headphones and none of it leaks into the mics. When in post production there is no reason not to use some good & balanced open headphones like HD600's.

Which Mastering HP would you say is the best deal sound…also what do you say about Tracking HP same best price sound. I've used AKG 240k's but they bit the dust my Senhiser wire shorted….I'm down to a pair of AKG K 301's & It's been a while since I've shopped for Cans. This guy doing the reviews was raving about some cheap Cans he said they were like the Quincy Jones HP's. Not sure how much they are but I imagine they are expensive. You'er a talented man you play everything eh?

Indeed. Still using my beloved HD580 precision for composing and mixing. It's almost falling apart, but the sound... ;)

Don't get it.. 16 dislikes?.. I come to this dude when I need advise on audio shit and he's always been on point. Proud owner of Grado GS1000 and Fostex Purple heart and TH900 mk2 .. Oh by the way.. John Grado said hello Z. We both live in Brooklyn NY

Yeah.....open headphones are most definitely used for mixing. Closed back are generally reserved for the booth to (hopefully) eliminate bleed.

Nathanial Clabaugh you can’t mix with open back, too many distractions from the track

it would be cool to mix with both sets of headphones.. just to see what types of environments your music would be best in. (like it would add to the music or subtract to it) It would basically... be a spot to listen to something

Zeos in 2021 still agree pretty much everything you do, however I saw alot of people mixing with open headphones (in a studio) - srh1840 for example. However... if guys are serious about it, using monitors anyway.

I guess those would count as semi-open. They are in their box up on the shelf. I may have a special assignment for those later.

Lol my giant elf ears touch the top and bottom of the cans in the DT 770pro on the table. I have been looking for some vulcan shaped cans.

I don't know. I have some superlux 681 and 681 evo, and I still prefer my HyperX cloud alpha somehow. I think I would love closed headphones that also have a good sound stage, it can be done.

What's the best HeadPhones can you recommend for Mixing / Mastering? I notice you gave some rave reviews on the cheaper Chinese headphones. Thx Btw I'm looking hard at the JBL 30 series Monitors after seeing your review & the one w/the Neumann Binaural Head Mics Fritz that listen to those JBL vs KRK's Yamaha it was AMAZING !!!!! The Sound stayed the Same from left to right the KRK's sounded… well BAD.

Vakama16 I got some Philips SHP9500 on Z's reviews…the link sent me to the vid that sold me on em they should arrive soon. Can't wait to chk em out. I trying out the JBL3series 8" nice smooth mids & highs. But i have some M Audio BXa8's that hold there own & are much louder w/more bass but fatige the ear sooner than the JBL's i'm thinking of some JBL 3's 5" w/ a JBL sub. & the M AudioBXa8 to Krank it up for clients you really don't need a sub w/those.

Honestly I can't hear shit outside of my open backs, especially planar, but I do probably listen louder than normal. I don't see myself ever buying closed backs personally. Maybe iem's if I need them for work. Btw I love the combination pads on my hifimans. All the bass, all the comfy.
