Unlike the other speaker brands, The r300s are a trickle down of Kefs super high end speakers, They are a steal for $1300, they will let you taste what a $20,000 pr of speakers sound like. You will feel rich listening to them, the taste of super high end audio. I own them for this reason. no comparison in this price range, soundstage that can also punch hard. nailed it. With the other brands in this price range, this is about the top of their driver technology, and it was a long hard push trying for this sound. Kef delivers the r300s at a easy idle, from the multi million $$$ blade research that had already been done.

I've had both passive and wireless LS50 on my desk. In all honesty, I couldn't tell much difference between them. However, I had to send my wireless back to KEF for service when the amps died in the left speaker after about 7 months. Amp failures were a big problem for the wireless version. I sold my LS50W after they were replaced. I was tempted to pre-order the new LS50W2, but don't want to risk another FUBAR experience. Instead, I pre-ordered the new LS50 Meta passives. Will give them a run with my Topping D90 and Avantone Pro CLA-200 power amp.

From watching reviews he said he like the Ohm walsh a little more than KEF LS50s so I'd say he like the LS50s better than svs ultra. The ohm walsh is his favourite speaker of all time because of what it can do. He also said he really like the Kef r3 and it could be his end game and he said it sounds very similar to this K300 speaker so that's why I'm watching this video right now. In my opinion I think Z likes the K300 a lot more than svs ultra according to what I've heard from multiple of his reviews.

I bought Elac UB5 few months ago. They were powered by Cambridge Audio Cxa60 and accompanied by a sweet 8' Canton subwoofer. I was really happy about the setup, but i felt like Elacs could shine bit brighter in a smaller room (current one was 36 square meters). And then it happened so that i had to move to another apartment. A smaller one. And that ended up being a musical nightmare. All of the sudden, mid-bass disappeared completely. Also UB5s started to sound echoey in the new room. I've tried every possible placement, but got just a very little luck with that. I got rid of Canton Sub and added svs sb1000. Basically nothing has changed. Without waiting for too long, second svs sb1000 came to the room. For both subs i added SVS soundpaths also. Music started to sound better, but it still wasn't at the level i had in my old huge room. I started noticing that i was skipping the songs that i used to love only because they sounded shallow and unsatisfying. I got used to listening to only very few albums... Last weekend i saw that some crazy dude was selling his 10 months old r300s for 700 euros. I pulled the trigger quickly and OH MY GOD, THE DIFFERENCE THEY MAKE!!! The sound i have now is miles better, even if compared with the old room. And are KEFs forgiving or what... I can throw any shit at them and it gets transformed to some ear licking goo. Subwoofers are also blending in so much easier now. Thank you KEF and thank you crazy dude for selling it to me for this price.

@gordthor53516 жыл бұрын
Zeos, you should put those R300s on sand filled stands. When I first got my LS 50s I placed them on a pair of Polk RTI A9's and they sounded like ass. I picked up one speaker while it was playing and noticed a huge improvement (the Polk boxes resonate a lot), so I made some sand filled stands and the bass got so much sweeter (more natural and more powerful). Kef speakers sound best with the ports plugged (likely why the manual shows a big red X [and a graph with spikes in the frequency response] on the picture with the ports open and a green check mark on the picture with the port plugs in [ with a very flat frequency response graph]. Obviously you need to put more power to them to get the same level of bass with the ports plugged, but it is soooo much sweeter (natural and not fatiguing). My R 900s have 4 separate ports and they are all plugged. The bass is the most natural I have heard (yet VERY powerful). I never heard a realist kick drum (it is like the drums are right in my room) until I got the R900s with JC1 mono blocks. You can hear every chord change on the bass guitar and they dig super deep in the bass. I agree with everything you say in your analysis and how they compare to the LS 50s. When I first got my R 900s I set them up up-stair in a big open area with hard wood floors and a lot of hard surfaces. In such an environment their is too much tweeter, but down-stairs, spiked into concrete, carpet and well damped room, it is sweet heaven. The sound stage is WAAAAAY better in a well damped room. I suppose that goes for all speakers, but even more so for the Kef R series. What amps are you using? There is a lot of bullshit out there and it is nice to see that you call it like it is. Also, you have a great sense of humor.

I'm going to start with the Klipsch RP150's. I know I'm late to this video, but I got a good deal at $250/pair. 17:15 Zeos mentioned the RP150's after the Q100s. Did I make the right choice the RP150s over the Q100s? I know, different speakers, different style completely. I actually will be using them in a small room, so maybe the Q100s would have been better marginally. But I got a yamaha 100w/channel avr for $30 so I think I will be happy with the speakers I got. "Best speakers I can afford" is hard to define when LSR305s were on sale for $180 pair, Klipsch RP150 were $250/pair, ELAC UB5 were $300/pair, Q100s were $250/pair too. All very close, all very good reviews. Basically almost jumped on the LSR305s for the reputation, but the Klipsch I figure I can transfer to a home theater system later, but I want to use them on a desk for now and mainly for music consumption and Battlefield V coming out in October.

I had these speakers with a Arcam A19 amp, 50w per channel and it was a great mix between delicacy and power. I choose this setup after a lot of auditioning of several speakers and this combination give me the flexibility to listen on any genre and feel very happy. Try from Vivaldi's four seasons (from Chesky Records), to Michael Jackson and Metallica (Drums sound amazing in "...And Justice for All") with these speakers and you will know what I'm talking about. Use 100w amp if you need more control over a big room. But for a medium size room, with 50w, these speakers will rumble your walls and some times make you cry. Don't amp at the minimum 25w cause they will sound lean. The only reason why I sold them was because I upgraded to Kef Reference 203/2 and needed the money for a better amp. But I really did not wanted to sell them.

Zeos... very very slim change you might see this but still worth to point out that the top bit of this speaker is actually not the same as the LS50's. It's thicker and permits much more low end than these would allow.

It helps I auditioned them. Pretty sure my sensibility should stifle any immediate need to upgrade. Had to wrestle enough with the idea of spending what these cost.

Justin Ross just you wait until Zeos reviews a pair of $1600 speakers and you want your r300 to begone

Cuerex thing is I ordered them before he reviewed them. At the time they were on sale for 500 off. I figured I was fucked either way.

Great reviews !!! Love the honesty, sound demos and most of all the sarcasm :) I really enjoy watching your videos. I'm currently in the market for an upgrade from my Kef Q150s. Budget is about $2k. Options I've considered are the R300, R3, S.F Venere 2.0 and Buchardt S300 or 400. Movies and music will be split about 50/50. Any insight would be greatly appreciated. Keep up the great videos.

I own the kef r300s and the kef ls50s. I'm sure the kef r3 is an improvement as is the buchardt s400. If you can get the r300 on sale over the others get them. They sound excellent but they can fill a medium sized room easily so they may be more than you need. If you have a small to medium sized room get the kef ls50s. If you really want to spend the full $2k consider Buchardt s400s or r3s or even buy 2 speakers. The kef ls50s for music and TV and a pair of Hsu ccb8's for home theater. I also own ccb8's and can tell you for $700 they are much more efficient than the speakers mentioned, huge, and sound loud and clear for movies while still having excellent sound and soundstage. The ls50s are often on sale for 1k. Regardless of what you choose or have chosen know it will be excellent and literally nearly no speaker will outperform it.

@ Z Reviews When are you going to review the Q acoustics 3020i?
@StewartRoss6 жыл бұрын
Hey Z man, have you ever listen to the KEF X300A? They're basically an active pair of Q100's, with dedicated amps, DAC & transducers onboard. In Australia, they're only $220 USD more than the Q100, which makes them a flaming bargain! Only catch is everything we see online points to the X300A/Wireless being a discontinued line. Since they're now 5 years old. Happy hunting. :)

I've been looking for the KEF Q100's in white forever. Nothing. Anywhere. (Well, except the douche on Amazon selling them used for $1500 + $80 Shipping). Sure, I could get the black or walnut. Then, every time I listen to my speakers I'll sigh and think how I wished they were the white ones and I'll grow to resent them. A lot like my relationships.

For a desk setup, would you rather recommend q100, rp 150m or even rp160m ?

Marc Gallant what does it better?
@eastcoastmountainbiking88336 жыл бұрын
Q100's are heavily discounted, and the highs are not as offensive compared to Klipsch. the only knock against the KEF is they like/need quality power. Imaging is also better on the Q100's
@juliangst6 жыл бұрын
Mavic85 the power issue could be a deal breaker because on the desk I can only use small amps like a sa 50
@eastcoastmountainbiking88336 жыл бұрын
i would probably still get the KEF, you can always upgrade your desktop amplifier down the road. If you need space something like a NAD D 3020 V2 or Emotiva A-100 stero amp would fit the bill and doesn't take much space

Oh mighty ZeeOhss, every speak to how your hearing might change ? I notice Mine changes at different times of day, Also, on vintage gear, how sound changes as things warm up etc. PS audio even has addressed the optimum, temp and humidity to listen at.
