Great video. You cover the part that no one will talk about (connecting line and load on the 3-way).

Great video...very clear and easy to follow instructions. My only question is: why doesn't GE include a wire nut with the add on switch?? It would literally cost them 10 cents. You're always going to need one!

For the wire that you placed the tape onto, is that the line or load? I don't recall you saying what wire that was. Also, can you install only one smart 3-way on one side and one standard 3-way on the other side?

3-way question: How could I tell which outlet is master? I tested with meter, as follows: Box 1(2gang): has 2 hot wires & 1 load. Box 2(single box): has 1 hot wire & 2 loads. I have no idea which is traveler? Is traveler always hot? Confused

Only need add on switch if you have 2 switches controlling same light.

So in my situation one of my add-on switch location is End-of-Line so it only has Red, White, Black, and Copper....no second Black. The only way I could get the main switch to function correctly was to connect the Black and White together in the Add-on switch box with red as a traveler and copper to the green terminal. However, while the primary switch functions correctly, the Add-on switch does nothing....it is dead. Does anyone know how to hook it up correctly if your add-on location is the End-of-Line?

Do I need to connect the two switches via a smart hub before the add on will work? I can turn on and off from one side (smart side) but I cannot turn off from the add on side? Any guesses?
@antoneluekenga53344 жыл бұрын
I did the same thing added my add on switch went to turn add on on it turned lights on then they went off automatically.so I got rid of the add on switch,used my old 3 way switch and connected my neutral to the black terminal and the red traveler line to the upper brass screw and all worked fine .

How do i know witch switch is the master?
@MelL7738 жыл бұрын
If you disconnect everything from your 2 switches and the panel breaker is on it will be the switch that has one of the black wires with 110-120vac (USA).

@SmoothbassmanStudios8 жыл бұрын
Loonytik Correct!! If you have a three way application, the process will not work unless you have two smart switches. That second switch is a control pass-thru back to the 1st switch using the neutral wires. The load is being controlled from the main switch.
