the first time I heard "Strip That Down" and heard the 1D line, I had to think about what I thought I heard then dismissed that thought. listened to it again...still didn't quite get it....so I looked for the lyrics. saddened by the words, I started searching...and found this interview. I love how he keeps saying "we" and "us." Like instead of making it all about him, he acknowledges all of the crew and everyone who contributed to making the songs and making everything happen. It wasn't just him. There are songwriters, managers, and other crew members that make things happen. But most singers don't bother to really acknowledge them in interviews. I think overtime, the pressure and anxiety of continuing to match up to Strip That Down's success plus not having a clear knowing of finding what true musical style he wanted to be as? Also dealing with relationships that didn't work out added to his stress. He wanted to get out of his management/contract as well leading up to his last days, but supposedly they let him go first after Maya's book was released.
