I have also gotten distracted from my 6502 projects in lieu of Z80 projects on/off over many years. Finally getting back to everything, yet again.

May I ask where did you get a genuine TMS9918ANL? Mouser were rumoured to have lots but now don't appear to have any

Alas, Mouser do not carry those. I sourced them from eBay... I know, risky move. It's where I got my AY3-8910 chips also.
