You guys did my 2020 Z900 with a full escapamente exhaust… the bike has been nothing but a joy to ride…SMOOTH … I recommend 2WDW hands down one of the best in the game…

as per Kawasaki`s spare parts system, the pistons on Z900 and Z900RS are the same. The cylinder block is different, though. So is the head, due to the fins allone.

He mentions deep dish pistons 3 times. Tuned 1000's of them and doesn't know jack shit. Same pistons goose. All in the head.

My z900rs makes 112 to the wheel with an ecu flash and cat delete with stock pipe and headers. That equates to close to 120 at the crank.... I'd be interested in getting the 900 cam and a pipe......

I know the Akra headers and stock can is more popular. But how does it compare to something like a Brock’s full system? Is there much of a performance difference? And how much? Is it worth the extra money? Even for the style?

A pal owns both models {as well as an anniversary Yam R1 and a new Fireblade !} I think I'm right in saying that the RS have taller gearing, not merely sprocket changes, which I personally prefer. Busier engines can be a bit tiresome over any great distance.

I’ve never quite understood how Kawasaki came to the conclusion that they needed to retune the engine for the RS. Seems to me that they just neutered the top end while not gaining much elsewhere in the rev range.

They make significantly more torque lower in the range. I considered the z900, but what you feel on the street? The RS beats it.

Absolutely not worth a cams swap. Pipes, filter, ECU flash. That's where you're getting gains you'll feel in your butt.

Because the RS is meant to be a cruiser, something you take out on a sunday and people turn heads because of the beautiful bike you ride, and the normal version is a sporty naked to hoon on the backroads.

The RS is meant to be more of a sports touring package than a sports bike. Along with the power decreases they added mass to the "flywheel" to smooth out the idle. The intent is to have a very smooth low RPM operation and good torque for passing/accelerating up a hill without downshifting. If your idea of a good ride is a manic machine that'll bite your head off if you look at it wrong, then this bike is probably not for you. The people buying this bike understand the intent and ride it differently, heck many "neuter" it even more by installing a taller front sprocket to smooth it out even more. On the other hand, even with the power it has it is pretty dang manic. Because of the torque it actually feels more aggressive than a GSXR750 even though the later has more power.

Hmm, I appreciate this video much but I've put 13k miles on my ZRS bone stock. I think the torque in the mid range is one of the best features in real world riding. I do see there isn't a ton given up with the cam swap. If you plan on track days the cam. Swap would be nice because it runs out of guts before redline because of the cam. I think I'd do ECU and exhaust with air box mods and call it a day for street riding. There ain't a better feeling than coming into an uphill curve in the mountains and rolling on the throttle at 3k and hearing the growl and the pull in the midrange into the screaming top end.

Z900 pistons, Z900 cams, and possibly tune on E85... That sounds like a recipe for a pretty peppy sleeper, do the Z900 pistons fit into the rs engines?

Would you do a Sweden/EU Z900 RS ECU? Are there any differences? I know one US tuner wouldn't do a VN900 tune because the ECU was different..

Too much extra work and labor. Since the bike needed to be tuned and it was due for a valve adjustment, the cam and headmaster seemed to be the most logical progression. Z900 cams were only a couple hundred from ebay.
