I would like to agree with you on Joe Jon comment but Joe was running what he thought was his best option of winning in the first half. Then, if you remember at half when BV was being interviewed he made the comment about running the ball which I don’t disagree with, but when you come out and run the ball up the middle literally like 8-9 times in a row. I have a feeling BV got in his own way and demanded certain things for start of 2nd half. Joe Jon said ok. Here you go BV. I know it be hard not to 2nd guess offensive coaching if I am BV but you gotta let the coaches coach and they are all coaching with what feels like a very tight leash. To much micromanaging

Just an idea: VB obviously has the ability be the DC, but it's gotta be really tough to be the HC/GM and be the DC too. Hire stoops (or someone else) to be the GM, overseeing the paperwork, NIL deals, etc. ---aka front office guy--- while VB can be the HC/DC and the guy with the whistle.

The transfer stuff is happening all over college football so there is not much to be dine about that, and it's not an OU problem. As far as coaches go, we still have Bates and Chavis and now Arbuckle and his QB coach, and iur HC. We are not in shambles. This is a solid core going into next year. Mateer is gojng to be similar to Gabriel where he makes players around him better. We should be at least an 8 win team, and possibly 9 or iutside shot at 10 wuns next year. 8 is a very realistic win total, and we can build in that going into Mateer's seniir year and a maturing offensive line in 2026. These are realistic expectations, and people have to be patient. Firing Venables will cause mire instability and a massive vacuum if talent from OU no matter who the new hire would be. We are setting more stines in place be patient.

Posted this on the Oklahoma Breakdown and decided to re-post on this forum.... Let me state up front... I'm a VB guy, but ZA leaving after 1 year is not a good look for the HC - especially, given the Kumbaya speech when he was hired.... As the guys have reiterated over, over and over again, this is not your father's College ball anymore and changes have kicked into warp speed and are occurring daily.... VB's underlying principled-driven coaching pedigree of "building a young man" at it's core now has to be 50% of the plan. Going forward, everyone must understand we now have the 2-tier class of player on our team to succeed. Tier 1: the traditional approach of recruiting young men who want to be a "sooner" and develop and Tier-2: pro hired guns that are 100% on-field performance driven - produce or fire them.... The reality is the next season will be a make or break season for VB given the past season and the killer 2025 schedule... Just hope if things go south the administration does not replace him mid-season, but given the new realities would not be surprised if the worst scenario plays out.... Bottom-line: the game day coaching performance and player mental mistakes and poor play has got to GO... Taking a sabbatical until next season, but before I go want to thank Ikard and Lehman for their excellent analysis, honest assessment and passion for the Sooner program.... Boomer Sooner....

It didn't work on the 2 point conversion because whoever was calling the plays called a bone head play, they had the whole right side of the field to do a RPO and give Hawkins a chance to use his legs or passing ability and they put him in the pocket and Navy blitzed and sacked him.

@@u9035z0ade This is nothing compared to Texas 12 year stretch of ups and downs that were mostly overhyped down years due in large part to Oklahoma beating them sometimes twice per year, and losing to OSU and others that "they should have beaten" according to the nonstop national narrative of kissing the Texas athletic administrators behinds. Every year it was the same hype and mostly failure from the end of the Mack brown era to Charlie Strong qnd Will Muschamp, and even Sarkisian has had his rough patches, especially year 1 and we beat them last year, and should have had another Crack at them in the Big 12 Championship. My point is we are nowhere near as low as Texas has been for the last 10-12 years.

Every attempt to bring stability to the team seems to bring further instability. I don’t know if I’ve ever witnessed a coaching staff suffer such mass dismantlement year after year. The transfers are creating a whirlwind of instant gratification that’s turning into more drama than anyone wants to look at.

Brent Venables is one of the best recruiters, motivational speakers and defensive coordinators in football. He needs to get more involved with the new age and take on the front office and run this franchise. To do so needs to just get a great Defensive Coordinator so he can take the lead with other things like NIL and Portal and all that. A great coordinator will fit his scheme to the talent. At this point call up John Heacock for the hell of it. In his mind he should know maybe he could be the HC in waiting. I don't know but let's get it going. Let's go big. Take someone away, idc what people say a lateral move isn't horrible. Some people need more money, change of scenery.

BV is now a CEO and needs to be better at the skill required to be a good one. Hiring and firing coordinators has been a huge weakness and he’s had enough chances that I now believe he’s not the man to lead the Sooners…even though I like him. Let’s be realistic and admit our program has stunk for the last 3 years. Admit where we are, make the changes and move in the right direction.
@troyburress49792 күн бұрын
@genx8555 so his initial hire for Offensive coordinator left for a head coaching job in SEC so that was a good hire, his replacement turned out not to be good but Brent dealt with it quickly by firing him mid-season and his replacement we really don't know about but reviews on the hire have been very positive. His first D- coordinator everyone knew had little control and so Brent dismissed him and his replacement was a good hire. So explain how that is a huge weakness? Getting to a bowl game despite playing the toughest schedule in SEC, losing your top 5 receivers to injury, replacing your entire offensive line, playing essentially 2 freshman QBs and new offensive and defensive coordinators seems like a pretty good job to me but hey what do I know....
@genx85552 күн бұрын
@ OU has one of the most valuable brands as well as richest histories in college football. Hiring and retaining good coordinators shouldn’t be difficult compared to many places. Yet, we still have several suspect assistance coaches on staff who’ve shown less than stellar results. We also have had to fire an OC in the middle of the season who BV was responsible for hiring. Then we lose a DC to WVU who appears to have been pretty good. Again, I want to see BV succeed but I’m not into putting lipstick on the pig and calling it pretty.
@troyburress49792 күн бұрын
@genx8555 He inherited a team with no defense, the starting QB and RB left and yet he won 10 games in his second year. This year the record was not good but seriously. He's a 3rd year coach first year in SEC and has the toughest schedule. 2 new QBs and without the 5 top receivers. If you were without the receivers but had an experienced QB you can probably overcome most of the injuries or if you have 2 new QBs with 5 star receivers it might be even better. But to have new QBs and none of your top receivers, along with a new line, how much success will anyone have? If 2 of his coordinators get other job offers then he isn't making that bad of choices. Really the only bad choice has been Litrell and he took care of that and took responsibility for it. I think all things considered the fact that he won 10 games last year, had to deal with tremendous unforeseen circumstances this year, had a dominant win over a good Alabama team that showed what we can be and the $40 million it would cost to fire him. He deserves more time. It's his first head coaching gig and he is learning how to do the job while learning how to handle NIL, the portal, a new conference, rebuilding the defense. We have never had a coach have to deal with that all at the same time, and I'm not including his wife dying of cancer because life happens but come on? The injury and o-line issues alone probably cost any coach in this conference 3-4 games. I just can't believe there's enough there to give up on him after 3 years. He hasn't ignored any problems. Look at Nebraska, the first coach they fired Frank Solich went to Ohio and became the winningest coach in the school's history and is now a member of the hall of fame. Yet the team has is on their fifth coach since firing Solich and just made their first bowl game in 9 years. Venables has proved he can win 10 games that he can dominate a good team and he doesn't hesitate to fix problems. He has shown things guys like Gibbs, Blake and honestly Riley never did. You can't measure him against coaches who never had to deal with the things he has.
