I love this! They're doing it old school.. calling it on the fly. Notice how everybody is watching the bandleader (the organist in the black hoodie). He'll call out key changes and other stuff as it's happening. This isn't rehearsed at all - it's one long jam session. Great group of musicians!

Shankabottomus I agree in a sense. I’ve seen kats struggle from trying to play unnecessary chops and fills when it should’ve been all foundation. The concept of it is easy, Fully agreed but I guess it’s just more so the mentality of some that makes it difficult for no reason.

​@@Shankabottomus It certainly sounds simple on the surface, but there's more to it than that. There are subtle things that make all the difference. For example, when the singer starts his verse, everybody tightens up and backs off a bit. Mike closes up that hi-hat, the bassist and guitarist both start playing a little more sparse and muted, the organist starts comping rather than holding his notes, etc. Then the chorus hits and everybody opens back up a bit. Nobody had to tell them to do it. Keep in mind, this is a brand new song to them. Everybody hits the bridge, and there's no question where it is. It's not about the simplicity of the song, it's the musicianship behind it and the ability to adapt on the fly. You can tell all these guys have chops, but they aren't overplaying. These guys know their roles - and to hear them executed well on a song they don't know, simple or not, is a treat!
