Luke 18 talks about another rich man. He asked Jesus “What shall I do to be saved” key word “I”. Self righteousness. Jesus gave him the law and the man boasted about how he kept the law. Jesus then said one more thing, give all you have and follow me. He walked away sorrowful. Zaccheus sought Jesus. He went to his house. Never brought up the commandments, yet this rich man wanted to give half of what he had and pay back what he took unjustly. He received salvation. The law didn’t provoke a man to give a dollar and the man went away sorrowful, yet grace brought a man to salvation and he gave and restored what he took. Those stories are back to back stories for a reason. Look at the order... Rich young ruler... Self righteousness through the law. Jesus talks about his death and resurrection to come. Jesus heals a blind man and he SEES! Zaccheus gets saved by grace.
