Rest in peace Zach! You were a big part of my fun childhood. You were very kind when I met you and took a photo which you autographed. Always fun to watch on TV. Thanks!

Loved his shows. My Band played on his show called Disco teen on channel 47 out of Newark. Wish I had a tape of us on his show. 2x I also did a few Bread commercials for him for Fischer bread.R.I.P Zacherley.

I find all this now, four years after my fiancée passed away. She always told me of how she watched Zacherley/Roland with her father when she was a little girl. She'd be floored to see all of the Zacherley-centric videos here on KZbin.

Thank You Dave for posting that, I wish I would have know Zach was going to be on Mike Douglas's show that day I would have watched it. I used to go to concerts at the Fillmore East in N Y C, And Zacherley would some times greet the crowds of people at the door going into the concert that evening. Would you please post more of that video if you can find the rest of the show. Speaking of talk show hosts, Merv Griffen who is a big producer and had a talk show like Mike Douglas had, Was in a monster movie I think it may have been Murder in the Rue Morgue with Karl Malden. Thanks again nice Job !

I grew up on Long Island, and Zach was my absolute favorite. Couldn't wait to get home and put on the TV. I never thought I'd see him again. I assume he's dead now (I'm 65)and he must have been over 35 at least when I was 10 or so. I would still watch him today if I could!

RIP John Zacherley. 98 years old! Wow. Great horror show host, great rock disc jockey. Great career, wonderful voice and personality. Great guest on this show too...terrific. John always had great stories to tell when we worked together at WPLJ-FM in New York in the 70's. For those who didn't know this man -- John was a terrific, personable man, always had time for people, loved talking to us. Just didn't have a big ego. Just about everything was made interesting when he spoke to us or recalled a story. Great memory too. The only sad thing is that he lived alone modestly in NYC. He had some good friends who stopped by. I don't even think he had any living relatives that he spoke of.
@richardbartolo28903 жыл бұрын
Boy that is sad about him living alone, Especially since Zach brought a great deal of fun and joy to horror fans and the general public. I have a few memories of Zach, Like meeting him when he was a greeter at the Fillmore But as far as his show the one very clear memory of him was from around 1959, I was at my cousin's house in Brooklyn and we were watching Zacherley at Midnight, And Zach was hanging (Supposedly, some ones guts) on a clothes line he had set up in that small studio of his.

@@richardbartolo2890 - Don't forget his "wife" was in the hamper, Richard. He was actually quite a wonderful man. I knew him briefly when he was a disc jockey at the rock station WPLJ-FM (I worked at ABC during that era). Older than the rest at the station -- but far cooler with that magnificent voice & laugh. One of a kind for sure.

I'm really glad that this guy lived such a rich, full, and LOOONG life! What's kinda cool to me is that he died only a few days before Halloween. That would have given his die-hard fans a few days to prepare celebrations of his life on October 31. Zacherle left and indelible influence on late night horror hosts such as WDCA's Count Gore (whom I watched as a kid/teen).

Saw Zack live in the Bradford Theater in Newark as a boy. He judged a Werewolf calling contest. I competed but didn't win. The movie was House on Haunted Hill, which was supposed to have a ghost emerge from the screen. The so-called Ghost was a skeleton on a zip line strung over the audience. When they launched it everybody thew things at it. Pretty cool experience all in all. RIP Zacherley my good fellow.

From the look of the set, I believe it was a horror theme show. The guy puffing on a cigarette I'm pretty sure is Frank Gorshin, who played the Riddler on Batman. The black guy with the deep voice may have been the actor who played Blackula. Not sure who the other 2 guys were. Maybe somebody else knows?

"On The Rocks" partial episode ""Blizzard of 78" half hour local Boston TV coverage Peter Cook and Dudley Moore on SNL "Hardware Wars" Star Wars spoof Richard Pryor on SNL "Person to Person" with Jack Kennedy and Marilyn Monroe "Land of The Lost" full half hour episode There may be more in my boxes of old VHS tapes. That's it for now.
