Dowwgla Burger normally you speed it up a little. If it’s really steep you almost sprint up it. My cross country coach says the best way to get better at racing is to race, or in your case, the best way to get better at running hills is to run hills. Good luck :)

@@SDfighter1 I was a 16:33 5k runner freshman year and sophomore year(last year) I ran 50 mile weeks in the summer and ran 40 seconds slower than my freshman time, gave up for a few months(not smart) and then got back to work last summer running 50 milers again and this year I’m down to a 16:04 in the 5k. Probably the biggest thing for me is the summer miles are for build up in the legs to get strengthened but for the improvement you need to do a tonnnn of speed work during the XC season. This season we did 3 speed workouts on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday(Saturday long run) which is the main reason for my improvement, a couple other tips are eating healthy(I started last month lol) and try to do body weight workouts like squats, push ups, and especially core. I’ve got one more race this season on Saturday I’m aiming for the 15 zone

I highly recommend summer training to people just joining. Even though I had lots of knee problems, coming into the season I was the 2nd fastest freshman on the team and started with 21:50 had a good headstart over the other freshman who began around 24-25. The only thing I’d suggest is pacing yourself the first mile. I had teammates who finished the first mile under 6 minutes and weren’t prepared for the course and got times over 21. I finished the season with a time of 19:52 as my pr. Not the greatest season for me but I could’ve improved a lot more.

I decided to join XC 1 year ago when I first came to the US. I got a 43 on my first race... 👨🦲 It was not a surprise since my stamina has always been bad and It was the first time I participated in sports or did something that requires so much strength (yes,... i’ve never done any “physical things” like this since sports or physical health is not really emphasized or a big part of my old school) However, I did improve lol My second year of XC, I got a 31:10 on my last race. Although it doesnt seem fast but I was super happy with my progress !!!

1. summer training (focus 90%) -train more (run more) -eat healthy -avoid injuries (stretch) -make a sleep schedule (8-10 hours) -dont breakup the runs (run longer time periods) -run with a friend 2. Racing strategy (focus 10% or maybe less) -eat healthy day/night before -visualize the race (know the track) -take in energy gels -find lighter or spiked shoes -run with people who are slightly faster than you -try to catch up to 3 people in the last mile live happy, be healthy ✌️

My freshman team is very fast and I am in the top 5 (fifth runner) but my PR is only 19:00. I am constantly getting cramps and need some tips. My team has gone through some intense summer training and as a team we are very fast, our scores always win. We will finally be sending our team to state this year :))))))

Dang my PR is 19:39 and I’m the fastest freshman.

If you’re getting cramps try drinking more water
@griffinwilson62225 жыл бұрын
Try not to drink more water before your run and if u have a cramp in your right side, breathe out as your left foot hits the ground and vice versa. I have found this usually works for me.

I honestly have been so off an on throughout my highschool cross country career I can’t tell if I’m faster or slower, but as I finish my senior year having put in almost no summer training, and seeing this new generation of runners come in with smoking quick times, it’s really motivated to put in more effort into training I want to improve so bad

This helped me I have improved by five minutes by two miles so my time last me was 15:36 and my time now is 10:27

Zach Levet I run for a small NAIA college in Indiana. I ran a PR of 16:33 5K in HS. And I’ll let you know

That's awesome! How has it been running in college for you? & That's a strong 5k!! How did the race go?
@Batman969256246 жыл бұрын
Zach Levet ended up running in the 29s. But it was so muddy so everybody ran slow. Running in college has been a step up in mileage mostly, and we do longer workouts such as 4x2km which I never did in HS. The workouts tend to always get up to 8km of total work instead of the usual 5K-6K of speedwork in HS

I do middle school cross country and this really helped. Since it’s middle school, we do 2 miles or 3200 meters, my time went from 18:30 to 16:00, thanks!

20:30 sophomore year (my first year) to 16:34 my senior year. Never got to have a good summer because of injuries but I’d like to see where I would’ve ended up if I ever did any 70 mike weeks.

Wow. Last time I ran a xc 5k was in 5th grade when I was 11, and I got a 23:14. I mostly run sprints and do a lot of track and field now, and I am thinking about maybe trying xc this year of 8th grade in the fall for a team. I bet I if I trained I could break 18 mins for sure! I’m excited!!
@isabellat.74855 жыл бұрын
My piece of advice is times can vary based on the course too. If you know where the course is going to be then go train on an easy day to get the feel of it.

I went from 19:30 to 15:40 so a similar story...that said a lot of this comes down to coaching, a dedicated athlete with a good coach will have far more success than an equally dedicated athlete with no coaching.

started sophomore year with 20:33 and ended it with 19:38 this year I started with 19:34 and ended it off with 18:55. I'm planning on training for 8 months starting today so I can try to break 18 and maybe go to state even better, but this video has been helpful.

My carb loading dinners don’t really have healthy shit and it’s definitely made some difference. I just don’t know if I want to skip out on all the fun with the team and also the girls team though.

I generally eat a toasted bagel with honey on it or just a English muffin with either jam or honey before a race. Recommend trying it sometime, worked for me pretty well (generally had one somewhere around an hour before I ran).

Zach during base for 5km the speedworkouts will be long or short in volume like 13 km long threshold of 1k or 7k for 5km
Great vid it really motivated me! Keep posting and i cant wait to hear your XC story!!

I just got done with my freshman year and I started the year with a time of 23:43 and ended the season with 20:34. I love cross country so much and I can't wait until the next season. My goal for next season it to get a sub 19 or 18 even. I got to race with the top people in the state Marcus Mota Mota and Adham Maher. I wasn't in their race but they were on our team and it's their last year of cross country and I am grateful I was there.

I'm a horrible runner. I started out my summer with a 8:30 min mile. I ran with some friends and within 1 month I was running 7:48. Cross country season started, I ran a 33 min 5k. 1 week later we have invitationals, I ran a 28 min 5k. 3 days later, guess what boys? I just ran a 27 MINUTE 5K LETS GOOOOOOOOOO yea im still shit at running but by the end of this season I wanna be running sub 24 at the very least. Hard work pays, and the dude is right about summer training, it makes all the difference.

I’m being completely honest my first race for XC was a 23:03 it was a season opener at our own high school (West Milford btw). By the end of my season the last race our championship held at Garret Mountain in New Jersey and I got a 19:57. I can tell you just by doing this freshman year for my first time it is pretty hard since I’m normally a fast kid. But this sport really puts everything you have to the test.

19:19 for me. Great tips, hoping it helps. Also run in Williamsburg sometimes. There are some fast guys there for sure.
