Purists will be purists. I personally think Hoechlin sounds way better. Especially in this scene…. He sounds way more eerie, creepy, and menacing. Newbern was perfect in Advent Children, but in this scene…? He’s nowhere near as good as Hoechlin. He sounds like he’s trying way too hard to sound tough, and it’s extremely forced.

I think Tyler sounded way better in this scene than Newbern. I honest to god couldn’t even get through it after seeing Hoechlin’s performance….. Hoechlin sounds far creepier, eerie, and menacing in this scene. Also, Hoechlin is far more fitting for a “good” Sephiroth too. Newbern in this sounds extremely unnatural and forced…..like he’s trying way too hard to sound tough.

In one of the research notes which I think might have been in the original psp game is it was explained they were testing sensory deprivation on Jenova while she was in her stasis state. The original games(Crisis Core/7) while they show her helmetless but in Reunion they wanted to show what the scientists were doing in case you didn't read any files in the Shinra Manor that and maybe a small Mewtwo reference? Not only that but its to show another timeline change to show Crisis Core and Reunion although extremely identical timelines but very small changes at least in this point in Zacks history

Yeah. I think they should've kept her appearance from the original game. Sephiroth was kept in the dark about Jenova, and has never seen her up until the reactor scene. Then, you finally see her in full, see the fact Sephiroth has similar features as she does (long silver hair) and it asserts the idea-not just to Sephiroth, and even the player-that this thing in a tank is his mother. I think it dampens the moment a little bit, though I feel censorship definitely has to do with it. Hell, there's a weird smoke texture that appears on Cloud and Sephiroth when they get a stab in on each other it's nuts.

I think Zack’s voice in the remake’s Last Stand scene and Intergrade ending sounds better. Gonna guess he improved by Intergrade and had also put more effort in Remake’s scenes.

I don’t know if it’s just me, but in FF7 Reunion: Crisis Core it sounds like everyone is a bit off not just Zack’s voice, which to be clear I prefer Rick instead. Like some lines are a lot flatter than the original one, Sephiroth in particular, even though I liked Tyler in FF7 Remake. And hell some lines had to be just straight up reused audio from the original game, like one of Cissnei’s DMW lines sounds more like Carrie Savage than her new voice actor. Idk if anyone feels the same way, but if I’m wrong than maybe I’m just being too nit picky.

Totally agree! Even zacks new voice actor sometimes has good deliveries then other times its really off. I definitely think it falls on the sound direction vs the actual voice actors which is a shame.

He just wants to be cured, but he himself doesn't know how. He's a guy on the brink of desperation, so he latches onto the one thing he loves (Loveless) to rationalize his suffering. He wants the "gift of the goddess" but also doesn't know what it is. He just tries different things until one luckily worked. As for his new goals after being cured, no one knows yet. Maybe FF7 Rebirth will answer that.

Honestly for me George Newbern's voice for Sephiroth is gonna be hard to replace for me. Hopefully the new voice actor can fill those shoes. Since George Newbern is Sephiroth in my eyes. However and I know this will be a hot take they definitely did a good job recasting Zack's voice actor.

I don’t have a problem with Caleb Pierce , but the sound director flubbed it. He did a fine job at the end of remake secret ending. Here it seems like they rushed takes and just didn’t give the voice actors proper direction with many lines. I do think Caleb did well in a lot of the side dialogue that was newly voiced for this game though so I don’t think its his fault at all.
