I believe this is no longer true. More and more people are aware of free will and also prefer to assume you are safe and sound and on your own way, rather than disturbing you with a unnecessarily worried message. The most extreme example I know is about a reporter who died alone in her apartment and nobody knew she died until 3 weeks later! She was honey sweet person, welcoming and kind. Though she died alone. Nobody was worried, everybody assumed she was OK. A whole building, her relatives... Everyone forgot to call
