VGC is dead for casual fun players thx to open team sheet format, no more fun surprise strategies, the tryhard sweats who use the same crap over and over again must know everything and have the full advantage! Yippee how exciting!!..zzzz

I'm cool with items and abilities being known. Moves, idk. But Terra type should absolutely be hidden.

I'd argue most players derive their fun in VGC from the competetive aspets of the game as in outplaying their opponent. Atleast this was my experience when I used to compete in live tournaments (2014-2017). Open teamsheet facilitates that. The more information you have, the more it is a skilled based game in regards what plays to make and what Pokemon to bring to a battle. Terra type alone being unknown would turn many games into an uncompetetive guessing match, which, as I am sure, would be more unfun for a majority of players, who actually compete. Markus Stadter always used to say that he'd never try to use BO1 strategies that rely on surprise effect, even back when Swiss was just BO1, as this was a) uncompetetive and b) vulnerable to scouting. "Fun Surprise Strategies" where never a recipy for success, even back then, except when they could be replicated even in BO3 and could function with the opponent knowing about the strategy. As someone who Top Cut small tournaments stacked with multiple national champs using Volbeat, Parasect and Primeape (just 3 out of 6 really weird choices for that particular team) back in 2015 I can assure you, that winning games solely because my opponent did not know certain moves or abilities was never that fun. I always preferred winning by better assessing the situation and making the smarter moves. "Fun Surprise Strategies" often created "I wont top cut but neither will you" scenarios, similar to bad hax. As for "tryhards" using "the same crap over and over again". Compared to past metagames, the various formats of SV are impressingly diverse. Just look back at VGC 2015, or even VGC 2014, 2013, 2016, etc. Open teamsheet sdo not stifle creativity in team building. I would argue, they enable it, as players cannot rely on having 1-2 set modes that crumble when your opponent knows what is coming. Also, open team sheets benefit newcomers, and unexpereicned players, at it makes games less about the knowledge what technically can exist and more about the actual play someone could or should make. As Wolfey Glicke pointed out in his explanation on why he favors open team sheets, the top players back then rarely fell to gimmick or surpirse strategies, as they had the knowledge and experience to mitigate that. Rather it were newer players, who could have their tournament run ended by something out of their control. I empathise with the loss of some weird or fun strategies some people used to run back in the days, but for those who were not around then, I can safely assure you that they were more the cause of frustration and anger then fun in the community. (There are good reasons, why Smeargle was almost universally hated). Online ladder without open teamsheets still exist for you to try "Fun Surprise Strategies". That form of Casual play is still there. Now it is just harder for it to bleed into actual competetions. In the end, most people do not play VGC for the Gotcha!-moments, but for actual competetive play, making good moves and outsmarting the opponent.
