Great job, the two of you. I sprinkle corn starch down when I need to slide my husband up the bed. Dry off as best you can, sprinkle the sheets and then the sliding goes a lot easier. It’s all trial and error. He prefers the corn starch over baby powder or other scented powders as it doesn’t interfere with his body spray scent, he doesn’t want to smell like “a baby’s bum” and the corn starch doesn’t dry him out like perfumed powders do. Just a thought. He also doesn’t get red when pushing him up like he use to. Just my unasked for two cents. 🤪 P.S. Once the corn starch dries on the sheets, I just flake it up and use a cordless handheld vacuum. This way, the sheets don’t get yucky and I don’t have a lot of laundry. 😁

Zack Collie ~ We may be a small community, but we are powerful together. My husband and I learn a lot through your videos so thank you very much. P.S. Make sure you don’t have fresh lotion on your back, legs or bum. It won’t work. We learned that the hard way, trying to skip corners. 😳

You guys are awesome!! I too, am very blessed & grateful for my amazing partner for taking care of me. I've been a Tetraplegic/quad since I was 13yrs old (32 now) , watching this & realizing the differences America has compared to New Zealand (where I'm from) , we don't have to purchase our equipment ourselves, we have a huge company called ACC that helps fund all of our needs that are injury related (medical issues (if proof shows its injury related/necessary), equipment, wheelchairs, beds, vehicles, medical supplies, cushions, repairs, weekly earnings, caregiver agencies, housing, house modifications etc) you & your gf rock! PS: tip for your spasms , when your legs or feet spasm, get your gf to squeeze your big toe :) & just hold the squeeze until/if spasm calms down (doesn't always work but see how ya go :) )

My husband has the exact same disability as you. We found that it wasn't healthy on our marriage, me having to do his personal cares., his bowel program especially The lines became blurred and my body physically started to break down from turning him, lifting him etc. I'm 44 and my back is completely shot. It also affects the sexual part of a relationship too, so I would politely caution that you have her do as little as possible. Its hard to be sexually attracted to someone when you are the one cleaning them, as well as my husband not feeling like manly. So for the most part we save the showering and bathroom to his aides. I hope that you guys have a long and happy life together.

Zack Collie my partner and I are quite new at this also (we’ve been together 1.5 years, he’s a c5/6 quad). But I do all his personal cares myself and it has made our relationship stronger and brought us closer. He feels as though he has more privacy and dignity not having heaps of different people help him, and a greater sense of independence. And I don’t have to feel uncomfortable knowing other women are taking over and doing intimate/private cares for my partner. Every individual and couple’s situation is different, so you’ll work out what’s best for you both as individuals and as a couple. :) enjoy the holidays.

My personal experience and observation is, women are a hell of a lot more nurturing and understanding with men than men are with women who have issues. Esp when first meeting someone they quickly run in the opposite direction when they find out about her physical issues. Thank God for women, and their ability to care for someone regardless of what their issues are. And God bless the select few men who don't judge someone based on that also. Ty for sharing.

The "no homo" is completely unnecessary! Even if you or anyone here were “homo”, there's nothing wrong in saying "I love you". It may sound surprising to you, but believe me, it has nothing to do with sexually desiring someone. What actually it’s surprising to me, is that you could say something like that, in a channel like this! And that Zack didn't say nothing about it either... I’m disappointed. 😔
@duke59676 жыл бұрын

You are blessed to have a girlfriend like that. I have progressive MS and both legs and my right arm are paralyzed. I completely understand the spasticity. Mine seems to get a little bit worse then what I see you have oh, and my legs stick straight out and it takes the individual all their strength to bend them and put them back onto my wheelchair footrest.hard to believe, but I live by myself and I am chair and scooter bound. the only thing that's keeping me going is the use of my left arm. I'm fortunate to have an ADA apartment and my mom lives about 15 miles away. Unfortunately, I'm single and I don't foresee some guy that is going to want to settle to take care of me. Just like you, it is 24/7 care, except for the hours that we are sleeping. I sure wish they would figure out a cure for spinal cord diseases and injuries. I have been blessed, roll my eyes, with a lesion in my spinal cord high up on my C spine that has caused paralysis in three of my limbs. I hate multiple sclerosis. Thank you for making these videos to inspire those of us that have a hard time as well.I know it's easy to look positive in the videos, but I'm sure there are days when you asked, why me.

Hi, I watched your video on how your girlfriend transfers you to bed and wanted to share some tips from experience. I am a nurse who has taken care of a quadrapelgic for more then 7 years and have learned from lots of trial and error. I know everyone is completely different but I just thought id share with you guys what works best for us, because I know how hard it can get on your back transfering by yourself, so here it goes I'll do my best! What works best for us is having a sturdy, key work STURDY, small step stool next to the bed about 6-10 inches high at the top side flush to the bed at pillow height, having your chair wheeled up tight to the stool. The trick though is to have your bed height pretty even to your chair height or just a little higher works ok too. I then have one foot on the stool and the other on the bed (usually start by kneeling with this leg until you get in postion) and bend him forward a little to like give him a hug and reach in front of him to grab his wrists (grab with my right hand his left wrist, and my left hand his left wrist). Then rock him like she does and now standing with both i transfer his butt and top half to the bed and lay him back so your horizontal to the bed. Then all i do is pick his feet up and spin into bed. (Sometimes the first transfer over you end up close to side of bed, just don't let go haha she just has to then make her way onto the bed without letting go and take another lift to slide your butt back further onto bed so now she's like standing on the bed). I don't know if this is pheasable for you guys but I watch your videos and others alike to help me learn more tricks and techniques to help my friend as much as I can. Thanks for sharing your journey and hope you guys have a great year!
