That's a good point. They're typically sampled and sped up, increasing the pitch, so a small snare with a little jingle jangle would work pretty well.

Drummers who play a lot in the drum and bass style in the kit tend to have a ton of different snares, tambourines and sizzles for the different break sounds. Often they'll have much smaller bass drums (14-18) and maybe one tom max. Check out people like Johnny Rabb, Jojo Mayer, Dan Mayo, Ian Maciak and Peter Szendofi for killer examples

Really interesting. While you were unboxing it, I was thinking that it's pretty one dimensional and a little gimmicky. That usage of the tambo snare as a regular tom really opens up interesting ideas. I kinda thought it would be over the top and clashing with the main snare but it comes out as a different texture and adds up nicely! Really cool concept. Oh and Zack be my sugar daddy and pls send me that tuning key!
@MarcPlaysDrums Жыл бұрын
Oh…he set his Tom’s up like quads. I used to do that back in the day but wanted to be like everyone else so I kinda abandoned it. But…I’m slowly getting back to that Tom set up because it just flows better. And the clarity.

this is a cool concept but honestly i feel its a waste without better execution! when I think of a snare that needs a tamborine texture I think of a deep punchy PFFFT snare, would love to see this concept executed with a bottom head. It might also just be that I don’t really like snares with a single head, but that's just me.

That tambo snare excelled, imo, when you were playing the higher speed and rimshots on it. Switching it out for a span of high bpm music might be very interesting in a set. But otherwise, it sounds too dry compared to the timbre of the rest of your setup. It's like adding the Louis Cole kick sound to your set; interesting, but it would clash unless used in sets where the speed of your play is deadening the usually warmer, naturally reverb heavy and incidental splash sounding set. You can't add a Hello Kitty snare to a fully outfitted Gretsch kit and expect it to sound like it was meant to be there.
