Is this REALLY necessary in the stadium with the LOWEST ATTENDANCE?!

Pro tip: if you're an MLB team struggling to get fans to show up, try being nicer to people. The Oakland Coliseum has some of the funniest and most passionate fans in baseball, and they deserve better. Better attitudes from the security guards. Better gate-opening times so they can see the Athletics take batting practice. And a better stadium overall that gets cleaned once in a while.
Speaking of the awesome fans, there's a LOT of footage of them in this video and the next few that I post. I attended this entire four-game series against the Los Angeles Angels featuring Mike Trout and Shohei Ohtani, who was going for his 100th career home run. Shoutout to the bleacher creatures (and to Hal the hot dog vendor) for being so cool.

Thanks for speaking on this. I tried to get down to seats by the tunnel the umpires exit through after the game recently, for a ball, and was blocked by security. I was told it has been a rule this whole season that fans were no longer allowed down. There couldn’t have been more than 3k people in attendance. It’s absolutely ridiculous. Back in the late 1990s, I had season tickets for the Phillies at Veterans Stadium. There were four of us sitting in a section of my seats, with the rest of the seats empty. The four of us just happened to have two pairs of seats next to each other, so my friend and I moved down one row. An usher immediately came down to us, asked to see our ticket stubs, and told us we had to sit in our ticket seats next to the other two people, even though the entire section was empty.

I go to walk around and I meet a lot of people there so I know a good amount of people at the Coliseum. I get on the jumbotron a couple times. And a friend gives us tickets sometimes so it's not all bad.

Been to the Oakland Coliseum twice in my lifetime. Once in 1999 and the last time in 2018. It's very sad to see very low attendance for a Major League ball club but your chances for getting a ball do go up. I do plan to visit at least one more time before they close the stadium for good. Hopefully Howard Terminal Happens since there would be two great ball parks to go to in the bay area.

Worst stadium in the league, ill never go back as long as current ownership is involved, just sad . But the atmosphere is what keeps it for wanting to go there. Been one time in july of 2014 before they traded 9 players away or left at the end of the season, and the stadium was at 30,000 that day, loved it. Its very sad now that ownership can't do anything right now and just need to sell the team or do something soon.

Grew up in Reno...The countless trips to see the A's and Raiders in the 70's and 80's...Not to mention Day On The Green concerts in the same time period...Best one I attended was titled Monsters of Rock in 1979...The Motor City Madman headlined, along with Aerosmith and AC/DC and others. This place was a fun time. I need to fly up there before they leave, just like Candlestick, The Coliseum holds memories I will take to my grave. Thanks for the behind the scenes as always!

I went to a game last year with my girlfriend and after it was over, went down to the lower seats to take a photo. The security started yelling at us to leave, complaining that they had "been there all day and wanted to go home." There were plenty of people still sitting in the stands..... For a stadium hurting in attendance and with such an uncertain future, some of the staff there really treat you like sh*t.

Security can be such a hassle at the Coliseum, many times making up restrictions that aren't even written in the guidelines. It seems to be worse when the Angels or Dodgers come.

If they let anyone down there when there’s not that many in attendance then people who buy tickets might choose cheaper tickets next times in hopes they can just go to field level. And the workers are literally just doing their job. If they let people down there they will face consequences obviously. Their bills are way more important than someone enjoying a better view of the game.

Another great video Zack. The very few A's fans are awesome. The A''s have a rich tradition and it's sad to see nowadays that a big crowd for them on a Friday night is only 14,000. The city and county have to work much harder to get a new stadium deal done, or the great people and fans of Oakland are going to lose the last professional team in Oakland. I've always said that when the A''s are winning and and contending that it's better for baseball. On a side note it great to see the Angels winning and if my Tigers can't do anything this season then I hope the Angels go all the way.

Unlikely the coliseum will last much longer with how bad it is so I don’t think I’ll ever make it there so I’m glad there’s your videos. I’ve noticed you saying for years that it seems like when attendance is lower, the more strict security is. I noticed that myself at the Trop when I was there in 2017 and see the same here again with this Oakland video. Security some places need to understand that going to a baseball game is supposed to be a FUN experience. And open the gates earlier (as you would say, as well as me).

had the exact same thing happen to me and my kids (first game) on Sunday vs the Angels...we came early, no BP, went to the same exact area to try and get an autograph and got kicked out.. Super YIKES from A's staff. Went there to see Shohei like everyone else, not even an A's fan but don't mind coming out to support the A's (I even rooted for them) but it was a huge letdown.

Zack, my son and I met you on Saturday night in Oakland. You made my kid's night. just to comment on your "pro tip." What you're failing to see is that the owners in Oakland don't want fans to come to the park. They sent all the best players packing (Chris Bassitt, Matt Chapman, Matt Olson) and have left us with a team on pace for the worst batting average in over 100 years. While doing that, they've openly flaunted moving to Las Vegas, going so far as to send emails to fans asking if we'd support them in Vegas (fat chance!!). And yes, they have generally stopped letting people in for batting practice. Oh, and on top of that, they literally doubled ticket prices this year. We'll keep going to some games now and then because it's major league baseball and it's not the Giants. But the A's ownership has made it extremely painful.
