@@roderickclerk5904 that literally ignores the definition of atheltics and what an athlete is. So someone isn't an athlete if they're not an exceptionally well rounded athlete? 10k runners aren't athletes because they can't bench 3 plates? @roderickclerk5904

@@EVO6- to me athletics is about auto locomotion or basically moving your body and the major athletic sports apply this to skills and techniques. Athletics encompasses the basic forms of physical fitness but at a much higher level. Most bodybuilders, especially ones blasting steroids can’t jog a quarter mile without passing out. They may look great but they can often be subpar in basic physical fitness parameters like mobility, ROM, endurance, etc. A long distance runner can probably still bench some weight though it probably won’t be a lot, but that is more than made up in his ability to MOVE. The sports I consider true power-athletic sports are football, basketball, baseball, hockey, mma/boxing, soccer, tennis, track, Olympic weightlifting, etc. To me, the non power-athletic sports are long distance running, cycling, etc. These sports are not about quickly accelerating power but they are still very athletic. To me bodybuilding is a semi-athletic sport, and depending on the bodybuilder, a non-athletic sport just like powerlifting.

@@roderickclerk5904 static strength is an aspect of athleticism, regardless of your made-up personal definition of 'athleticism' that has no place being used by anyone else. Also to call bodybuilding semi athletic but powerlifting 'non-athletic' when it's the latter whom are actually tested on their physical performance is comical. You'll call tennis players and MMA fighters athletes but not powerlifters, tell me which one would have a better carry over to MMA with no notice with just their physical attributes, when pitted against each other? The one with developed tendons, muscle contraction, posterior chain strength and grip, or the one with a mean underhand swing and nothing to offer once any kind of grappling is initiated? Strength is athleticism, being a specialised athlete does not make one less of or not an athlete.

These athletes are crazy strong indeed. The most insane thing I've seen in person, was a 50 year old football coach i was working for, bench press 500lb for like 3-5 reps. From a former D1 football player surprisingly enough we actually did use hook grip for cleans. Most of my coaches where USAW certified. For the entire first 4-5 months on campus you won’t do a clean with more than 95 pounds, form is really drilled in from day one.

Most boxers are all about form and practice, very little training outside of the core movements like rope and bag work. I was and am a pretty big guy for the Mexican style, which is very up close, quick and jumpy, my trainer said that the Mexican style when done correctly is a leg game, not footwork but leg work. You throw and stiffen your arms and 80% of the power is from legs and hips, deadlifts and squats are essential for a Mexican style boxer

Zach have you ever tried to bench or press overhead with the suspended bands or a bamboo bar? It’s insanely difficult and really dials in tendons and makes it necessary to squeeze the hell out of the bar, which for bench and slow lifts radiates up your arm.

Frizzle's bench is phony. It was the gravity episode, she had gravity turned down, and she never even did a rep, just unracked then reracked.

You need to check out Jacko Gill. He’s got some lifting montages on KZbin. He’s by far the strongest/freakiest lifter I’ve seen and he’s a shot putter.

Also the first lift was done in some regular trainers, no weightlifting shoes. Any normal person would just snap in 3 different places under that weight

The craziest James Harrison is actually on a missed lift. He misses a bench at 545lbs, does an easy roll down to his hips. Sits up and shakes his head with 545lbs SITTING ON HIS LAP AND DOES A LITTLE GLUTE BRIDGE TO ***THROW*** THE BAR OFF OF HIM
